Expo SDK 57 will be the easiest upgrade you've ever made. One command. No breaking changes. And boom, you're on React Native 0.86. It's also the first step toward a new release cadence we're considering: optional, non-breaking upgrades between the big SDKs: try.expo.dev/bluesky-sdk57

Trust your instincts. If your app feels slow today, there's probably a cold-start regression on a specific build, on specific devices... this has always been a difficult problem to identify. Now it's not. Our new "Observe" service is in open beta, free up to 10k MAUs. → try.expo.dev/observe-beta...

JSON.stringify() turns your Date into an ISO string. JSON.parse() gives you back a string - not a Date! TypeScript won't warn you. Your app crashes at runtime. 💀 I hit this in a persisted Zustand store recently. Read more: 👇 www.bitglow.de/blog/date-se... #TypeScript #Zustand #ReactNative

I’ve been working with both native Swift and React Native / Expo for years, and my experience is quite different. Especially things like fast refresh and the component model make iteration feel much lighter in RN.

Yeah, in development things can behave a bit differently around the splash screen. Before adding a delay, you could try hiding the splash screen after the first render has completed. If it’s hidden earlier, you might see a blank screen until the first render is done.
010
Oliver Kwast @baumstumpf.bsky.social · 17/04/2026
Does this also happen in production builds? One thing to check: when exactly are you hiding the splash screen? Before or after the first render? In some cases it helps to delay hiding it just a bit longer.

That “we can’t complete the process right now” loop is rough… We’ve seen similar issues during Apple enrollment where things just get stuck without any useful signal. Happy to share what worked for us if you ever revisit it.

Great! A lot has improved in terms of tooling and onboarding over the last years. Glad to hear it shows 🙂 One of the nice things with React Native is that you rarely need to do a full native build. If you run into any difficulties along the way, feel free to reach out.

Haha, now imagine being a classic native developer. Move a view 2pt --> recompile 🤣 But sounds like a great test app. How’s it been so far?

Oliver Kwast @baumstumpf.bsky.social · 17/02/2026
Yeah, same thought here. The ecosystem size definitely matters. Plus React usually follows quite consistent patterns which probably helps as well.
000
Oliver Kwast @baumstumpf.bsky.social · 17/02/2026
Completely agree. It’s probably not just JS, but the huge amount of React code available. And React tends to follow clearer patterns. Other areas are often more individual, which makes suggestions probably less reliable.
