I hate it when offenders say things like this: "Remmerswaal appealed the decision ... and said the consequences of a conviction would affect his ability to teach in schools." That's the whole point of your conviction, arsehole. It's the fuck around and find out part of the justice system.

Happy Pride to this Caravaggio self-portrait that made one man so gay he had to go to the hospital
Caravaggio's Baccus painting, featuring a lush fruity spread and leaves bedecking a pasty twink who only works out his armsArticle screenshot that says:

The most extreme examples of
Stendhal syndrome share a sensation of
self-fragmentation. Magherini
describes the case of a 53-year-old
German man who was hospitalized
after repeatedly viewing Caravaggio's
Bacchus at Uffizi Gallery. The patient
felt "an attraction closer and closer to
an intimate sexual arousal of
ambiguous nature that invaded him
and made him feel good and bad."
Unmoored and distressed, he sought
medical attention. After treating the
subject's initial episode, Magherini
writes that he came to recognize his
latent homosexuality. Another case...

Lamingtons are from Queensland. I went to uni at the Gardens Point campus in Brisbane and often ate at the cafe where they were invented (formerly Government House). Sadly, they were taken off the menu because not enough people bought them. Kids today...

Text
“All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

"They're not the same at all!"

YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—"

MY POINT EXACTLY.”
― Terry Pratchett, Hogfather

If you buy refrigerated items from Wonky Box, they're sent in a large-ish wool liner. I've been using them as weed matting on my garden

Home again after a holiday in Akaroa. Still one of my favourite places in the world.
View of Akaroa harbour. Moody clouds with blue sky peeking through, reflected in the water. Boats moored in the distance. View of Akaroa harbour. Grass and a pohutukawa tree in the foreground. Water with boats moored in the distance, and hills in the background. Cloudy sky. The end of a jetty is visible to the right. View of Akaroa harbour from the main jetty. Sunny blue sky with sparse cloud, and blue water beneath. Moored boats and a smaller jetty stretching out into the water, with the main part of town visible in the distance.View from a boat of Nikau Bay near Akaroa. A small valley of Nikau palms with cliffs in front and tall hills behind. The sea water looks especially green.

Years ago a friend of mine worked for ECan. She said their operating model was that if they didn't have an overwhelming reason to say no to an application, they had to approve it. That's how we got dairy farms in the Mackenzie Country. I think about that a lot 😞
