In case I'm not the only one who noticed a distinct decrease in quality (and quantity) of search results in Google Scholar (few relevant hits, not finding papers even if I paste the full title in the search bar) and had mentally almost given up on it: it's […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
Google Scholar search results (not logged in/private mode) for 'Retrofitting Fine Grain Isolation in the Firefox Renderer'. A total of a completely implausible '9 results', none of which are the paper with the search query as its title.Google Scholar results for 'Retrofitting Fine Grain Isolation in the Firefox Renderer', this time when logged in. While it only shows 2 hits, those 2 hits are the paper with this as title, and its extended arXiv version. Clicking through on the 'Showing the best results for this search. See all results' results in 'About 346 results', many of which at least on first sight appear to be relevant

The other time me and my dad took some photos of the ISS is already 10 years ago (July 2016). This might be a nice moment to re-post that (given that I posted that on Twitter, back in the day, and thus would otherwise probably be lost in the mists of time/the […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
A picture of the ISS, again taken from my backyard, this time from 2016. Somewhat blurry, small, and chromatic aberration abound, but the structure is clearly visible with a central module, and on the top and bottom solar panels attached. The left part of both panels is clearly more visible than the right parts.

Canon 60 attached to a Meade LX200 (D = 10” f/10), ISO 1600, 1/2000.

Had some fun taking pictures with my dad of the ISS transit in front of the Moon tonight. (The ISS being the only satellite that still makes me happy when I can actually see it with my own eyes---I'd rather not see any satellite swarms.) Thanks to @pfsmet for […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
A crescent moon, with some small bright dots (different locations of the ISS overlaid on the Moon) marking out a line through the image, clearly crossing the crescent Moon. The dots start (in time, and you can also start there in the picture) roughly at the right bottom of the picture and end (roughly) at the top left.

Photos taken with my dad's Canon 60D, a Tamron 600m@f/6.3, ISO1250, 1/1600s. The attached image is an overlay of the different photos; I some *very* quick-and-dirty cloning out of hot pixel areas after overlaying the different pictures (rather than do it the better-but-way-slower way around of first applying a hot pixel filter on each image, and only then overlaying them...).

Some pictures of the aurora / northern lights above Belgium around 23h30. Seems like I was just too late for the most impressive part, but it was very impressive show nonetheless! (The most impressive picture aurora-wise was sadly when I hadn't yet taken my […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
A blurry picture of a magnificent & impressive blob of green light tapering from the center of the image to the top right, above some roofs and treetopsA significantly less shaky and blurry picture of the northern lights, with a broad band of green colours at the bottom, with an upwards gradient into reddish tints. A tower crane and some rooftops protrude into the Another in-focus picture of the aurora, a clear green tint at the bottom, and red colours in the middle, with a subtle banded structure in the reds. This time it's a mostly-unobstructed horizon: only some treetops at the bottom. Some clouds appear at the left. A trail of airplane lights can be seen in the middle.A picture of the northern lights similar to the last one, but this time with a somehwat better composition: there's a full line of trees visible at the far bottom. In comparison with the previous picture, the reds and greens appear slightly less intense (and the airplane trails are more to the right)
