A beautiful still #autumn evening on the #RoyalCanal at the sharp turn between #Leixlip Confey and Louisa Bridge. #fall #reflection
A portrait-oriented telephoto view down a tree-lined mirror-smooth canal in late evening light. The canal curves to the right, and the last of the warm low sunlight is catching yellow and orange leaves in the distance, contrasting with the rest of the scene which is in deep shadow. The splash of autumn colour is reflected in the water, doubling its impact.

So the veins are more prominent, but the colour very muted. The leaf is a pastel Orange colour and lying on darkly coloured wet concrete. The leaf is covered in small water droplets.

Evening express — an #IrishRail InterCity from Sligo to Dublin rounding the sharp corner between the 13th lock and Matt Goff Bridge along the banks of the #RoyalCanal near #Leixlip.
A landscape view of a back-lit railcar train on the far bank of a curving reed-lined canal with a very low sun just ahead of the train’s nose and a little above it. The low sun is a mostly clear mostly blue sky with a scattering of small white fluffy clouds. There is a footpath in the foreground running along the near bank, and large trees next to that path frame the right-top of the scene.

A second harvest— it's been such a good summer that the wild flower meadows in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth needed to be harvested for hay twice!
A portrait-oriented landscape shot taken on a yellow-born field of fresh cut hay with a round hay bale in the foreground, and a large three-story neo-gothic building with a big church spire in the background, and a clear blue sky above. Because of the warm low sun, the bale casts a long shadow.

It's almost like the wonderful red #autumn (#fall) colours in the Boston Ivy wash down from the roof of Stoyte House in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth!
A view towards the Ivy-covered gable of a large three-story Georgian building along a path running diagonally toward the door at the centre of the gable. The Ivy is green on the lower half of the building, but a deep burgundy red on the top half. A tree branch frames the top-right corner of the image to balance the portrait-oriented composition.

Broken symmetry — nature trumps the architect's designs 🙂 One of the arches through Stoyte House for accessing St. Joseph's Square in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth. #blackAndWhite #architecture
A view of a large stone arch cropped to the exact edges of the surrounding stone work. The arch is perfectly symmetrical, but the ivy encroaching into it is all in the top-left corner.

The Boston Ivy in St. Patrick's College #Maynooth is starting to turn red, St. Joseph's square really is at its most spectacular in #autumn (#fall)!
A portrait-oriented view of a part of a grand old building covered in ivy, mostly green, but one section gas turned a deep rich burgundy red. There is a stone arch at the bottom of the frame, allowing pedestrians through the building, and big Georgian window with small white-framed panes directly above.

Red, green, and a hint of blue — some really stunning red #autumn (#fall) colour on our street.

The season is coming to an end, and as the days cool, the butterflies need to spend more time sunbathing to raise their body temperature. This makes them a lot more docile, making closeups a lot easier! I snapped this beautiful Painted Lady #Butterfly in @maynoothuniversity.ie. #Maynooth
A top-down diagonally composed closeup of a mostly brown butterfly, perched on big dark yellow daisies with conical black centers with wings wide open. The butterfly’s torso is brown and hairy, and there are little areas of different colours towards the edge of the wings, mostly orange and black, with a little white.

Racing the train — I was genuinely curious whether the distant #IrishRail InterCity train or the approaching runner would reach me first along the banks of the #RoyalCanal easy of #Maynooth. I was hoping the'd get to me at the same time, but alas, the train 'won', so the runner is quite small.
A yellow-fronted silver and dark green rounded railcar-type train approaching from right to left on the far bank of a tree-lined rural canal. There is a gravel towpath on the near bank, and a runner can be seen approaching in the mid-distance. The sky above is overcast, and a branch from the nearest tree frames most of the top of the scene. The railway, canal, and towpath run straight and parallel, so all converge at a vanishing point near the right-middle of the image.
