Third time this year I've watched a Hummingbird Hawkmoth laying eggs on our Ladies Bedstraw, checked out many other plants too, finally resting for over an hour. Anyone know whether eggs are likely to hatch this side of winter? #ukmoths #hummingbirdhawkmoth #moths
Common Birds Nest Fungi (Crucibulum laeve) found in one of the planters in our garden. We had fluted in the same container about five years ago. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social #fungi
Tonight's Buck Moon seen low (hence the slight distortion) over West Sussex. Caught a plane coming in to Gatwick too. #BuckMoon #FullMoon
Superb visit to Wales last week. Not a birding trip but plenty of opportunities nonetheless. Here Juveniles Swallow, Spotted Flycatcher and Stonechat. #birds #wales #wildlife
The Wool Carder Bee. This one taking a brief rest from sentry duties in the garden, there are two here and each likes to intrude into the others area now and then just to keep them on their toes! #bees #gardenwildlife @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social
This is one of a pair of large Solitary Bees who have competing control over a section of our West Sussex Garden. They're continually patrolling and chasing each other off, and they're big! Any ideas on ID please? @sussexwildlife.bsky.social #solitarybee
Southwater Woods (Dragon Estate) before it got too hot this morning and my first Purple Emperor of the season floated down and landed briefly beside me.
There were plenty of Silver-washed Fritillaries about along with Purple Hairstreaks too. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social
Great Tit family working their way through a hedge row, giving themselves away with constant cheeping. Here a juvenile calling.@sussexwildlife.bsky.social @sussexornitholo.bsky.social #birds
Got a call at 5:30am so popped literally round the corner to see this young Tawny Owlet with a parent keeping an eye on things nearby. Fortunately we've kept it under wraps and they're being left alone. #birds #tawnyowl
Woolbedding this morning watching very distant Honey Buzzards. This brown jobbie briefly perched close by, thought it was a Whitethroat to begin with, now thinking Garden Warbler. Can anyone help ID please? @sussexornitholo.bsky.social #birds
Just returned from Extremadura and think this must rate as one of the best birding trips I've ever been on. Made all the more special as my wife joined me and we had no guide to help us. #Extremadura #birds
Might be completely wrong but I think these are Yellow-legged Mining Bee - Andrena flavipes. Mainly a Southern England species, several were moving about the grass in our garden. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social #miningbee
