Time for a replay! This should give me a refresh before I attempt Portal 2 for the first time.

It's been a while! I thought I'd better get a replay of this in before Metroid Ravenous launches. This series is pure comfort food for me ☺️

I still haven't gotten around to playing past the first couple of hours of the original Final Fantasy VII so I should probably play that first... but I know the remake is critically acclaimed and an absolute steal at this price. Decisions decisions... 🤔

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is only £9.99 on the Switch 2 right now

I wasn't expecting another 2D Metroid yet after the 20 year gap between Fusion and Dread. It's always nice to have a genuine surprise during a Direct, I'm excited! 🥳

It is possible to use a The Legend of Zelda cartridge to unlock the world selection option in Super Mario Bros., by swapping the cartridges without turning off the NES and performing specific actions in The Legend of Zelda before swapping back.

How to use The Legend of Zelda to unlock a world selection option in Super Mario Bros.
First, start up the Super Mario Bros. cartridge. This is necessary to set memory address 07FF to the value A5. TLOZ will not overwrite it, and SMB will need it to be A5 later.
Cartridge swap Super Mario Bros. to The Legend of Zelda. Do not turn off the power, instead just swap the cartridges and use Reset to make the console start the new game. TLOZ will be used to write a specific value to memory.
Start a new file and buy the blue candle.* You will need literally no other item, just the 60 rupees to buy it.
This is used to access the Level 8 dungeon. *Go right one screen, up two screens, and right six screens from the start to find the shop that sells it.
With the blue candle, open up Level 8**, and go to the room directly left of the entrance. This sets memory address 07FC to 20, which unlocks the level select in SMB.
**Go left one screen and down one screen from the blue candle shop and burn the conspicuous single tree.
Cartridge swap back to Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. will look for A5 at 07FF, which it set itself earlier, and 20 at 07FC, which The Legend of Zelda just set, to unlock the level select.
Now, pressing B on the title screen will cycle through all worlds, allowing you to start the game on any of them, e.g. World 8-1. This would normally be accessed by beating the game, but this trick bypasses it.

I haven't posted much about gaming lately; most of my time has been going into GTA San Andreas, and it's one heck of a time sink (in a good way!) I fancied a change of pace today so I've gone back to Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. I never finished it on Wii U, so i'm hoping to fix that on Switch!

Kirby, Yellow Kirby and Red Kirby in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (green Kirbo must have died or something because he's not here)

I had some free time while the kids were out, so I booted up a 20+ year old save file on Pokémon Yellow! (I haven't gone by Stuey since I was at school so this must be ancient 💀) I only had one more gym badge to get, so I finally went and beat Giovanni! Can't remember why I stopped playing 🤔

My save file on Pokémon Yellow. I had 7 badges and was 23 hours and 12 minutes in.

I spent this evening playing a game I NEARLY finished back in 2008: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. My flatmate at the time beat it before me and spoiled the ending, so I lost my motivation to play it. I'm playing it on the XBox this time and I hope to reach the end credits 🚗🔫

In Mario Kart: Double Dash, shadows in the environment do not follow any kind of lighting logic and appear to have been placed solely based on "vibe". This results in shadows being cast in nearly every possible direction at the same time.

I'm carrying on with games in my PlayStation Vita backlog with something a bit out there: Hatoful Boyfriend! I have no clue to what I'm going in to here; what little I've heard sounds completely bizarre, but it clearly piqued my curiosity a few years when I bought it in a sale. Here goes nothing! 🕊

Now for something completely different! I played a lot of LucasArts adventures games in the 90s, but this one always passed me by. I've heard good things about Full Throttle so I hope it still holds up well today! 🏍

I forgot to post that I reached the credits in Donkey Kong Bananza yesterday. It was a bit of a slow start; the controls take a bit of getting used to, and you really do just smash everything, but it gets more fun as you unlock more Bananzas. The endgame really ramps up the story and challenge 🍌
