Well that was fun. Just got back from a 5 day road trip with this little lot. The colour has gone off for processing and the Delta 100 is going into some Ornano Gradual ST-20 - having been impressed from the results by @fyldephoto.bsky.social - when that arrives next week. #Photography

It's no good. I can't wait any longer. It's road trip time with these two and eight rolls of FP4 and Delta 100.

I've learned something new in today's #MinCup26 face off. #Cassiterite crystals display birefringence, meaning light travels through them at different speeds depending on its direction. That's enough to get my vote against #Graphite www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-re... @mineralcup.bsky.social

OK. The #Halite is the obvious choice, but when you have #Arsenopyrite that can smell like a Fart or Garlic depending on if you expose it to nitric acid, or heat, is surely today's winner. #MinCup26 @mineralcup.bsky.social www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-re...

I won't suck the Lime crystal sweety of #Pyromorphite as it might kill me, so I vote for #Gypsum today. I wouldn't want to suck this either, but look at all the things you can do with it. Plus I love this Gypsum Halite example here. #MinCup26 @mineralcup.bsky.social Image Credit: Simone Conte

I'm afraid the bling factor of both minerals in todays #MinCup26 does nothing for me at all. However #Hafnon gets my vote for the super sluthing story of how this minerals main constituent #Hafnium was discovered. Have a read of this www.ch.ic.ac.uk/rzepa/blog/?... @mineralcup.bsky.social

Hafnium and Niels Bohr - Henry Rzepa's Blog

In 1923, Coster and von Hevesy claimed discovery of the element Hafnium, atomic number 72 (latin Hafnia, meaning Copenhagen, where the authors worked) on the basis of six lines in its X-ray spectrum. ...

An easier one for Day 3 of the #MinCup26 . This surface texture just shouts stealth fighter, but its use in the production of brass going all the way back to the 7th century makes this today's voting choice. For those that want bling try this. Image Credit: By Ivar Leidus , CC BY-SA 4.0,

A tricky one for day two on #MinCup26 . I almost succumed to the bling of Erythrite but then found that shiny but dull, Skutterudite, plays a part in producing materials that convert waste heat into electricity. Is that cool or what? Skutterudite gets my vote today. Image Credit: James St John,
