I wrote a few words about director Minoru Ota and Sparks of Tomorrow, a series that looks to an alternate historical past for Kyoto Animation’s dazzling future: www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2...

With Sparks of Tomorrow, KyoAni Time Travels to Kyoto to Find A Vision for the Future

Director Ota was specifically inspired by impressionistic paintings, but bringing the vision to reality had its own challenges.

RIP to the Kirito cosplayer at AX who excitedly tried to say hi to another Kirito, but was only met with a withering, “Where are your swords?”

I made a mash-up of “Elizabeth Taylor” and the theme from Succession and it’s honestly a killer fit. So seeing that Taylor Swift was inspired by Logan Roy for “Father Figure” feels unsurprising. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTMBRwegn/ (Non-TT: www.instagram.com/reel/DPedUOH...)

I recently downgraded some of my streaming subscriptions to ad-based, and they are basically unusable. I get it. I know services need to pay for themselves and convince people to subscribe, etc. But it’s not even a viable option.

I think the Vibes are a result of using AI Ghibli aesthetic to predominate the AI-gen Lofi music loops on YT. It’s not real to begin with. They forced the vibe and bc no one’s actually watched these films, it overwrote the aesthetic. That + the commercial popularity of Totoro and Kiki as brands.
