Bik lab postdoc Alejandro De Santiago just gave a fantastic talk on phylogenetically divergent MAGs we recover from nematode holobionts, in the Tree Of Life session at #ISME20! Preprints here (meioBIOME software pipeline + nematode MAGs research paper): www.biklab.org/publications

My lab is HIRING - we have an opening for a #postdoc focused on marine invertebrate symbioses & evolution (heavy focus on microbial -Omics and bioinformatics, but lots of fun fieldwork opportunities too!) Full position info here: www.biklab.org/join-the-lab Please help spread the word! #SymbioSky

A colleague asked me if I had air conditioning growing up in Burma. intelligence and degrees don’t automatically cure ignorance. you can be highly educated in your field and still know embarrassingly little about the rest of the world.

Best part about living in a college town is cheap monitors/stuff when people leave! Curved monitor is $60 and the other one is free👌🏽🙏

Earth Day is about celebrating our planet and giving back. I had the opportunity to travel to our local clinic and introduced marine animals to kids on the autism spectrum. Maybe one day these kids will carry on the love for our planet. #earthday #autism #asd

We have buckets of hydrothermal vent snails after our first ROV dive! These are cuties are Alviniconcha spp., who have endosymbiotic bacteria in their gills and can withstand balmier deep-sea temperatures (5-33 degrees C) near vents #SnailsRising #NSFfunded en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvinic...

Hi Folks, How are yall utilizing AI to further your research? (Code help? Writing help?) What are the common pitfalls you are avoiding? AI usage is a slippery slope BUT AI is here to stay so I want to incorporate it into my workflow. Humans should be pushing boundaries of science not AI.

Week 1 of MBL Symbiosis Course recap! I had the privilege to work with amazing scientists and mentors @prhsteinmetz.bsky.social @ktgarschall.bsky.social. Learned awesome microscopy techniques that I will incorporate into my PhD thesis. We miss y’all, Patrick and Kathrin. Hope to see you both soon!
Holding an actual Nobel Prize in my hands. Crazy experience.

Communicating science IRL! I was at a wedding in a swamp in Louisiana. Found a couple apple snails and its eggs. Communicated to this grandpa about the invasive apple snails and how detrimental invasive species are for the environment.
