Vancouver Film Festival thread! First, Jaripeo, a doc exploring how 4 men in Mexico’s rodeo circuit navigate their queerness in a highly macho environment. I loved the contemplative pace but it felt a little detached and superficial. Though that mirrors the isolating force of masculinity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s not the point of the article but this quote annoys me so much. Everything the Birdhouse does is explicitly political - from the drag shows to the dances. This comes across as shade for some of the only organizers in Van foregrounding political action in all their events, even silly ones.

There’s mold remediation happening at work. At home, my bathroom is ripped up for a wall replacement, and my landlord moved all my things because he didn’t tell me he was also painting. Too many changes in my enclosure!

Resident Evil was fantastic. Creggers really understands the relationship between horror and comedy. And as far as adapting the series, I think glazing over the insane lore in favour of tighter (if a bit threadbare) human stories is the move. Also damn, this man loves throwing people off roofs.
