Someone in the C-suite isn't doing their job. When 'repairs' go on for years with no progress, that's usually the answer.

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Really. I wouldn't say they're good, but they're inoffensive. I kind of wish they went all in and made it more mac and cheesy.

130

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

It really does. You're going to have to report back to us about how it goes. For science.

120

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Hm, I think you'd mostly get the undertones of the cream soda. There's also no sodium mentioned on the label, so you'd probably still want to salt your KD soda when making the pasta.

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Sadly, no. She was the very first of us to try it, so we didn't know to expect the nature of her response. Her response, which was loud and included expletives, did encourage two customers to try it though. Tom and Daniel did try it, they both survived. Kristen did record that!

120

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Oh, no. They were vile. You should've seen (or heard) Kristen's reaction. We sadly couldn't convince Michelle to try one. I don't think any of us actually ate an entire cookie.

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

This is just the wild excitement we have at the store. Books and questionable foods/drinks. Cocktails would probably be better.

170

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The mushroom Oreos were a couple of weeks ago. Those got some excellent reactions, we had a few customers brave enough to try them.

220

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Would it help if I say that it's dairy free? So totally safe to drink.

110

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Pureed mac and cheese + soda stream? That could be an interesting one. I don't know if I have people I dislike quite enough to give them that.

030

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The smell is more intense than the flavour, which is quite mild. The hint of savoury/mayyybeeee cheesiness? But really isn't cheesy enough for the KD label is the forward flavour, but then it very rapidly just tastes like cream soda as the aftertaste.

140

Bakka Phoenix Books @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

I don't think you could pay me to try the Dill Pickle one. This one is at least a very mild flavour. I almost wish they leaned more into it and had some intensity and depth to the flavour.

For the record, this isn't a sponsored post. I'm just half hoping that by posting this, people start bringing us weird snacks for me to inflict on all the staff here.

Surprise visit from @kchew.bsky.social today. We've been on a roll having weird snacks at the store lately... (We don't recommend the matsutake mushroom Oreos). So, she brought this latest offering. Surprisingly, not bad? Needs more cheese.

Two tins of KD x Dolly's cream soda on a counter in front of book shelves.

Much as we love bookshops, they need more than love to keep going. A bookshop can be the centre of a whole community. Bookshops support authors; organize events. A thriving bookshop teaches the next generation that literacy matters. So don't just love your bookshop: actually buy books there.

Not a creator, but yes. We re-enabled shipping to the US on the site earlier this year... but it's very much my least favourite task now. It completely slows down my entire day, and depending on where the book is printed, there's the back and forth with the customer about customs fees/tariffs.

What's a book you love with all your goddamn heart that you believe did NOT get the love and attention it's due? I'll go first, and it's abso-LUT-ely THE CITY IN GLASS by Nghi Vo. There are moments from that book that live in my blood and wake me from the dark.
