We have created a little infographic showing 13 recommendations from our recent paper (doi.org/10.1136/bmjo...) about ways to improve the participant's experience when taking part in chronic pain research! It is often not possible to include all recommendations, but several are easily implemented!
1. Image of a person with a microphone, text saying "Advertise via community and trusted groups".
2. Image of books on a shelf, text saying "Detailed and accessible research information".
3. Image of a checklist, text saying "Clear information about eligibility".
4. Image of upward trend on a chart, text saying "Disclose potential for pain increase upfront".
5. Image of a mobile phone and an email logo, text saying "Contact details to discuss accessibility".
6. Image of a group of people, text saying "Approachable researchers, with lived experience".
7. Image of an academic hat and a hospital sign with a line through them, text saying "Informal and accessible research environments".
8. Image of a house and an online video call, text saying "Flexible, accessible participation options".
9. Image of 2 people, text saying "Facilitate attendance of a support person".
10. Image of an hourglass, text saying "Frequent breaks to reduce fatigue".
11. Image of one handing another money, text saying "Adequate compensation for time and travel".
12. Image of a clock with forward arrow, text saying "Explain long-term benefits or implications".
13. Image of a pen writing, text saying "Provide a lay summary of research findings".

Our new paper is out in @plosone.org! We looked at what happens in the brain when people with chronic hand-based pain experience resizing illusions. No evidence of SSEP changes were found, but several participants experienced clinically meaningful (>30%) pain reductions! doi.org/10.1371/jour...

Illusory finger stretching and somatosensory responses in participants with chronic hand-based pain
Current pharmaceutical interventions for chronic pain are reported to be minimally effective, leading researchers to investigate non-pharmaceutical avenues for chronic pain treatment. One such avenue ...

Super happy to say that I passed my viva today! Dr Donna Lloyd and Prof Rob Jenkins were amazing examiners who encouraged such a good discussion about the work in my thesis! Feels strange but very exciting to say that I am now Dr Hansford!!
