Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 01/10/2026Been a rough week folks. I would not hate it if someone could sing a little bit or play a few chords so I can add 1d6 to tomorrow's roll. 180

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 30/09/2026Discord servers, especially large ones? Need to use risk-based assessment tools that flag accounts for potentially sus behavior. Ones that limit access to Patreon subscribers do a huge service to their fans by making a paywall that scammers and fraudsters won't pay to play. 150
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 29/09/2026oh hey - I wrote one of those. I guess my first game goes to funding and print soon-ish? Want a solo-journaling game that made me cry during lunch? Want a way to say goodbye to a character who almost made it? Well I made a bunch of rolling tables to help with that! 052

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 28/09/2026Ball pythons sometimes need you to literally play with their food for them to go after it. No, I am not joking. My danger noodle Gemelli won't spring at a thawed and warmed rat while in his killbox if I don't dangle it around. And even then he might lose interest halfway through the process. 130

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 25/09/2026Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are a major part of why I love the fantasy genre. I may not play D&D anymore, but I am glad that the world they created still will have their hand on the wheel in other formats. This is a nice surprise. 010

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 21/09/2026It is telling that 5 of my top 10 Steam games by most played in hours can directly tie back to Story Of Seasons/Harvest Moon Inspired games. To be fair... They are very good games. And yes, 1 of them is Stardew Valley. Which easily breaks into my top 5 if you count hours played on my Switch. 130

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 21/09/2026Xain, yes. Hell of a boss fight. The way the game snuck power creeps up to you in those was wild. I love the idea of a pre-apocalypsed setting so much and Legaia really is what started that for me. 130
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 21/09/2026This is indeed correct. The copy I got in like 2002, a Japanese edition, and one I bought last year at a games con because I wore out the first one. 130
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 20/09/2026Good news! The size of the loaf remained the same but the air pockets were more numerous and smaller resulting in a less dense and chewier bread. This made for a success even if the results, at first glance, did not appear superior. #BreadScience 010
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 20/09/2026Follow up, it currently smells like bread. 45 minutes left to go. Based on the viewing window it does appear we have a structural failure of the crust, so the air pocket integrity has fallen. Pour some starter out in memoriam of bread that will likely remain dense. #BreadScience 100

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 20/09/2026This morning I adjusted my recipe a bit for the bread machine and both bloomed my yeast and also added a tablespoon of vital wheat gluten to see if I can make a less dense loaf. This has been a Sunday #BreadScience update. More news to follow. 130

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 17/09/2026There is a weird balance between being extremely excited to playtest a tabletop game you are working with friends on vs. knowing you have hours more work to do just to make sure it doesn't immediately break down when you start the table next. Still fun though. 040
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 15/09/2026So, my ttrpg has archetype cards you draw on a quest to boost stats, to randomize growth, a little right? Hard to do online. Well now the Google Sheet does it all for you. You just tell the sheet which card you drew. Also there's a rolling table. I am so happy with this result. 050

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 11/09/2026That is a thing I do. But, I genuinely think drop-down menus and vlookup tables can make for really useful character sheet tools. 030

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 09/09/2026Well, I have something to narrate for funsies. Sadie and I picked up a bunch of thrift books and one is a very short essay by Camus called "Create Dangerously." That could be a fun essay to record. 081
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 08/09/2026To date, I have never published a tabletop game. I have run dozens of successful playtests though. And I still consider myself a ttrpg designer. Because, I did it all by hand (and excel spreadsheet maths + vlookup tables). I wouldn't say the same about "AI enabled" ttrpg designers. 010
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026After midnight after a... probably 12 or 13 hour work day and an hour of doing tabletop stuff after that? Just laid down. Thought of a big solve for my design to simplify one hurdle that has been bugging me. Hell yeah. 090
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026Okay. The math might be mathing better on the tabletop game. I changed a lot of the comparison maths against Target Ranks to make attacking things well below you less of a cake walk and well above you remains punishing. Gotta see how I want to handle Rank based HP, MP, and TP. Might lower those. 050
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026Sky High was robbed of both a trilogy, and rewarding the character development of Warren Peace by giving him his own movie. 130
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026So, I figured out how to handle the "Withstand" defensive action. tTIGR has a call/response to attack and defense, but the tanks just soak the hits with a separate action than Dodge and Parry. Before I had it negate damage if successful like dodging and parrying. That was far too useful. 030
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026Sometimes we break the rules. Technically Howl's released in the US in the correct year, but in Japan and at a film fest the prior year. I am counting when *I* could see it. 120

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 01/09/2026Rewriting the math of a complex TTRPG and realizing how fun this is? That is why I keep coming back. Weird math is just fun. Now, would it work better if it was programmed into something? Yes. But the game is meant to be played at a table, with tablets or a toolkit. So, it will work. 0100
Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 01/09/2026If I had a giant chalkboard, I would write out so many TTRPG maths it would make math professors question my profession. Or sanity. ... Computah, where do I get 2 giant chalkboards. ... now make them kiss. 060
