Discord servers, especially large ones? Need to use risk-based assessment tools that flag accounts for potentially sus behavior. Ones that limit access to Patreon subscribers do a huge service to their fans by making a paywall that scammers and fraudsters won't pay to play.

oh hey - I wrote one of those. I guess my first game goes to funding and print soon-ish? Want a solo-journaling game that made me cry during lunch? Want a way to say goodbye to a character who almost made it? Well I made a bunch of rolling tables to help with that!

Ball pythons sometimes need you to literally play with their food for them to go after it. No, I am not joking. My danger noodle Gemelli won't spring at a thawed and warmed rat while in his killbox if I don't dangle it around. And even then he might lose interest halfway through the process.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are a major part of why I love the fantasy genre. I may not play D&D anymore, but I am glad that the world they created still will have their hand on the wheel in other formats. This is a nice surprise.

Theoretically, I am off work from 10/5-10/12. ... What should I do? Stream a game? Work on my TTRPG? Clean the house?

It is telling that 5 of my top 10 Steam games by most played in hours can directly tie back to Story Of Seasons/Harvest Moon Inspired games. To be fair... They are very good games. And yes, 1 of them is Stardew Valley. Which easily breaks into my top 5 if you count hours played on my Switch.

This morning I adjusted my recipe a bit for the bread machine and both bloomed my yeast and also added a tablespoon of vital wheat gluten to see if I can make a less dense loaf. This has been a Sunday #BreadScience update. More news to follow.

Scout is a friend and a delight to share a tabletop game with. Just sharing to see if anyone can help along or share for visibility.

There is a weird balance between being extremely excited to playtest a tabletop game you are working with friends on vs. knowing you have hours more work to do just to make sure it doesn't immediately break down when you start the table next. Still fun though.

So, my ttrpg has archetype cards you draw on a quest to boost stats, to randomize growth, a little right? Hard to do online. Well now the Google Sheet does it all for you. You just tell the sheet which card you drew. Also there's a rolling table. I am so happy with this result.

Played with the tools to edit a video of my spouse talking about a quasi-local game shop to us. Using a gimbal, recording in a live space, and then editing in DaVinci (free one) is neat. Pretty intuitive after Premier.

Well, I have something to narrate for funsies. Sadie and I picked up a bunch of thrift books and one is a very short essay by Camus called "Create Dangerously." That could be a fun essay to record.

After midnight after a... probably 12 or 13 hour work day and an hour of doing tabletop stuff after that? Just laid down. Thought of a big solve for my design to simplify one hurdle that has been bugging me. Hell yeah.

Okay. The math might be mathing better on the tabletop game. I changed a lot of the comparison maths against Target Ranks to make attacking things well below you less of a cake walk and well above you remains punishing. Gotta see how I want to handle Rank based HP, MP, and TP. Might lower those.

Dylan Baird (BardicGeek) @bairdlytrying.games · 02/09/2026
So, I figured out how to handle the "Withstand" defensive action. tTIGR has a call/response to attack and defense, but the tanks just soak the hits with a separate action than Dodge and Parry. Before I had it negate damage if successful like dodging and parrying. That was far too useful.

Rewriting the math of a complex TTRPG and realizing how fun this is? That is why I keep coming back. Weird math is just fun. Now, would it work better if it was programmed into something? Yes. But the game is meant to be played at a table, with tablets or a toolkit. So, it will work.

If I had a giant chalkboard, I would write out so many TTRPG maths it would make math professors question my profession. Or sanity. ... Computah, where do I get 2 giant chalkboards. ... now make them kiss.

My favorite for spooky seasons is Fortune Favors the Deep. Playing a game that's all about lurking dread and monsters from the void is always good to set a terrifying atmosphere.

Some time in the next month or two I am told I *must* take a full week off of work and unplug to try and rest and refresh because I apparently am clearly burnt out to a point of having other teams checking in with my boss to make sure I am getting more support.

Someone dared to comment on a video of Tony Weaver Jr.'s saying that comics are not educational. Well, me and my issue of 1993s Daredevil vs Vapora (the gasoline vapor monster) explaining the dangers of gasoline and to not touch gas cans in the garage politely disagree. Comics are educational.

If I survive the sprint now at my day job I need to commit to getting a table of 4 nerds who wanna playtest my crunchy ttrpgs I have written for like... 6 sessions or so. Based in what I am learning about the insanity of our workload, this means it would start some time in 2027. 😮‍💨

I was followed by 3 AI tech news / blogs in the lasr 48 hours. One was a conservative centered media thing. Gross. Blocked all three of them. FWIW, AI is most commonly made with stolen art and nothing that comes from that foundation can be considered ethical.

America needs to adopt EU-like regulations when a company does layoffs. I've survived 3 in the last 3 years at my work and honestly, the stress of it eats at you. The people impacted? Many take years to financially recover because of tech fields throwing out good people for bad AI kills jobs.

You know, boolean searches used to be an effective means to find primary sources or at least secondary sources which referenced in a citations page a reliable primary source. I miss research being viable online and not immediately feeding me what Reddit said last. 🤢

Just putting it out there that my friend and frequent collaborator @echoofjustice.bsky.social makes amazing art and I highly recommend checking their stuff out if you want hand made character art that does not use AI in the process. I'd first commissioned them before AI could even steal art.

I had a talk with my dad and stepdad about being 40, worried over the state of the world, and not knowing if my career of the last decade was going to still be here next year. It's hard to be that vulberable. I feel better, though. Sometimes the brave thing is to admit when you're scared.

Heat Dome is officially over for the week. Which is good because half of today I was basically useless from it. I don't believe it is reasonable to be expected to think when it's nearly 40°c (102°f) and humid.

If you can afford to, have the time, and the inclination, a form of self care I highly recommend is cooking yourself a comfort meal. Something that just takes you to a good place. I did not do that. I made pizza. My comfort meal takes a crock pot and like 8 hours. And is really a winter meal.
A simple home made cheese and pepperoni pizza, sitting on top of an oven in a pan much larger than it ended up being. It isn't pretty, but it was tasty.

I have been burnt out from work and not done much for my creative / fun side other than casual video gaming in months. Work's averaging 55-65 hours a week, lately. I'm putting this out there in a "I want to do more, but I have so little left of me" statement, just to explain why you see less design.
