Context: We don't even have to link to stuff because you know, you've seen it. NJSP was wilding outside #DelaneyHall and Governor Sherrill owns all of it. Gave Trump the win while eating all the blow back. The police sent a message loud and clear, the Governor doesn't control them. They are outlaws.

@RepJoshG's tweet: ".@RepRashida is forcing a vote next week to back Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed designated Foreign Terrorist Organization that has American blood on its hands.

Hezbollah killed 220 U.S. Marines in their barracks in 1983 and assisted the bombings of our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. They are also responsible for the second deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust in Argentina in 1994, and now, they relentlessly target Israeli civilians with rockets in direct violation of their ceasefire with Israel.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way. Gottheimer, one of many Zionists who decry tortured connections between anti-Zionism and antisemitism, has absolutely no problem trying to paint all Arabs, all Muslims, all dissent as terrorists. This language from these leaders makes everyone less safe.

It's also completely false. Tlaib's resolution calls for an end to the violent Israeli invasion and occupation, an end to the crimes against humanity, war crimes, ethnic cleansing. Hundreds of the thousands of Lebanese are being threatened, displaced, and killed. That's not Hezbollah.

It's also ahistorical. Hezbollah formed to resist the Israeli invasion & occupation of Lebanon in 1982. B/c history doesn't start the first time someone responds to Israeli aggression. The South of Lebanon has been an area for Palestinian refugees as well, from a century of Israeli ethnic cleansing.

Unlike the many online trolls who push these ignorant narratives, Gottheimer knows better and has instant access to experts, including Jewish and Israeli historians and foreign relations experts, if he was interested in the truth. Instead he spreads disinformation, encouraging violent response.

Context: Murphy, on his way out of office, appointed two of his children to a new public board charged with overseeing technological innovation in the state. His children do not have the expertise in technology necessary to hold the position. All after failing to coronate his wife Senator.
Screenshot from article: "POLITICO learned through public records that the outgoing Democrat appointed his daughter, Emma, and son Charles to the 13-member board of the authority in January. The board is the governing body over the new authority.

Murphy’s appointment of his children raises questions of nepotism — and not for the first time. Former first lady Tammy Murphy’s bid for Senate in 2024 drew so much opposition among grassroots Democrats that it inadvertently led to a wholesale change in how New Jersey’s ballots are designed, weakening its longtime party boss system."Screenshot from aeticleAccording to state law, the board’s members must have “expertise” in “data science; public engagement; the development and implementation of digital technologies and digital product development; and the digital delivery of products, services, or benefits.”

Hello #vapol it is I, #njpol, from the past with a warning for future you. Don't fall for the same bad takes that led NJ to run "Dems" like Josh Gottheimer to "purple" districts. Run radical candidates, take brave policy stands. Be Analilia Mejias in a House of Josh Gottheimers. Keep the takes good.

We respect and defend Congress’s constitutional role in matters of war. Oversight and debate are absolutely vital. However, this resolution would restrict the flexibility needed to respond to real and evolving threats and risks signaling weakness at a dangerous moment.

Congress should be briefed on any planned military action in compliance with the War Powers Act. It is also essential that the appropriate committees are fully and promptly briefed. Congress must not limit our ability to protect Americans and our allies."

For one, he’s probably a better fit for the district. He won two elections to Congress in the neighboring 7th District, and in Congress, he established himself as a solid liberal, a close ally of Rep. Nancy Pelosi. He could win the 11th, which leans Democrat, over and over.

Mejia is more lefty, in the mold of Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed her in this this race. Is that a good fit? Maybe, but Democrats have only a 5-point advantage in the 11th District, while they have a 29 percent advantage in AOC’s district in The Bronx and Queens."

Context: One of NJs many political problems is that there's very little critical journalism focused on the state. Some of the coverage we do get like the NJ Globe and the Star Ledger Editorial Board, is just laundering rumors and vendettas, giving them an incredibly corrosive gloss of journalism.

Tom Moran, now Substacker, formerly Star Ledger Editorial lead, is a prime example. Opinion writers obviously have opinions. But by incorporating unsourced interviews, and statistics the writing (when not printed on a page with a huge "Opinion" at the top) appears to be well sources and fact-checked

In reality it's anything but. For example here Moran calls NJ11 a D+5 district. There's no source & it's utterly divorced from electoral history. Obama carried the district by 5 in 2008! That was almost 20 years and 2 redistrictings ago. Last year, Harris was +8 & Sherrill won this House seat by 14.
Election history for this Congressional District, showing it hasn't been as small as a 5 point Dem advantage since Obama 2008.Screenshot showing then Congresswoman, now Governor, Mikie Sherrill won this district by 14 last year.

So why is Moran so down on Mejia? B/c his BFF Julie Roginsky, per her own public statements, is running Malinowski's super PAC and consulting on his campaign. Funny how that's not mentioned in his "reporting." Moran wouldn't be questioning if Mejia should primary Malinowski if he had won. Thereby: 🤡

A large factor in municipal finance woes is that Mayors & Councils remain laser focused on attracting business & development via tax gimmicks rather than investment. Municipal housing wouldn't pay taxes, sure, but it would capture rents directly, without the profit motive.

Municipal land sales fix this year's budget, but public ownership allows for ongoing revenue and more control over how land is used. This is highlighted by ICE concentration camps now having to be fought against.

Municipal/County ownership requires investment, which is why Gov Murphy's failure to follow through on his campaign promise of creating a public bank will continue to haunt our state as interest flows out to corporations at higher rates to tax payers and not back into other projects and lower taxes.

Folks on the Partnership for NYC Board should probably keep a close eye on their financials. And Mayors and Councils need to accept that they can't provide for their residents while also continuing to starve themselves of tax revenue and income by catering to business and the ultra wealthy.
