one day i had a classmate i was friends with come out to me as nonbinary (he's transmasc now and i will refer to him as such). my response was to make an attack helicopter joke, and only when he told me "hey that's fucked up" did it plant a seed in my head that ultimately led me to where i am now.

when i was 14, during peak gamergate, i fell into the start of the youtube misogynist rabbit hole. at the time none of it raised any red flags. apparently i had no reason to think there was anything wrong with laughing at the women who seemed really upset for reasons that no one bothered to explain.
