Predictable response from Heart of the City, but odd that the journo would approach them in the first place given the story is about K Rd (not in HOTC zone) - I’m sure the K Rd Business Assn would have loved to comment! www.karangahaperoad.com

Just had to check what Morgan Freeman had done to be termed a pillock…🙄 Reread - yes, I agree Martin is a pillock - but now I’m giggling at Morgan’s voice coming out of Gromit!

The husband once shook a bottle of chocolate milk and the lid flew off. Even after professional cleaning for blinds and curtains, and about four years later, we still find random flecks (dries like blood splatter)

My mother is impossible to buy things for, so the last few years I’ve been only buying her tickets to things - plays, musicals, exhibitions. She gets out of the house, and ‘quality time’ with her favourite daughter 🤣

If you mean for daily use, the husband got me one of these and it's been excellent. Big enough for gym gear and work stuff, rolls down so not bulky when empty, great in the rain, smart enough for my office job, a great all-rounder. $$$ but will last. cactusoutdoor.co.nz/collections/...

Our current strategy is to convert all our household energy reqs to electricity, so when we later transition to solar we’ll really be able to maximise it

badfishnz.bsky.social @badfishnz.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Listening to Toby and Mike discuss household solar. I really want solar but can’t get the ROI to stack up. 3brm 2 adults PHEV in Auckland. Electricity around $250/month in winter, below $200 in summer. Gas for instant hot water <$500/year. Are we just massive outliers?

I got TWO delivered this early morning (one cat at 2am, the other cat followed up at 3am). The first one was alive (!) but thankfully the second was stationary. Cats are such turdmonsters, is lucky they’re cute so we still love them.

Anybody supporting the B4-16 ban, this is what you, as adults, will face (it is not just under-16s that will have to verify their age). It will breach S14 of the NZ Bill of Rights Act 1990, endanger isolated young ppl who find their communities online, and give big tech more access to your data.

Got my Auckland Council rates bill today, which included some excellent comms. I’m pretty happy with how my rates are invested for the benefit of all Aucklanders, although if we bumped up Built Environment a bit more, maybe we could have more of these awesome multimodal street upgrades? 🤞
A screenshot of a pie chart showing what percentage of rates revenue goes to different functions. Community 28%, transport 37%, built environment 2%
A screenshot of Greater Auckland’s image of the Victoria St upgrade, prominently featuring the new tuna (eel) sculpture (which is public art so probably comes out of the community bucket but the street upgrade that enabled it is built environment)

I think we should start measuring government programmes in Hayden Donnell's 'metres of roading'. Lowering the age of bowel cancer screening to 45? 5 metres of road. A year of Three Waters? 63 metres of road. Reading recovery? 13mm of road.

I should add…I don’t believe we should have a night shelter, because appropriate and supported emergency housing with a longer term pathway is the much better response, but govt should be aware and helping, not growing the problem!
