Happy International Women's Day! When we look back at the Iberian Peninsula in the 6th–7th centuries, we often see a world defined by warlords. But at the heart of these cultural shifts, women were wielding incredible power.

Did King Reccared convert the Goths, or did he take too much credit? At the Third Council of Toledo, King Reccared was hailed as the unifier of the Goths and Suevi. However, Saint Leander of Seville used his homily to subtly remind the monarch that true conversion comes only from Christ.

Here’s the official press release. It’s rife with typical (AI generated?) vague corporate double speak on “collaboration”, “ethical and safe use” and so on. One wonders about the unstated financial terms driving this.

Hard to overstate what a *huge* win this is for OpenAI in its strategy to spread its malign, brain- and planet-destroying tentacles all through the education sector. Oxford’s global standing will create a permission structure for many other schools to do likewise. “If Oxford’s doing it, then…”
Screenshot of a post University of Oxford stating that from now on all students and staff at Oxford will have free access to ChatGPT. The post claims that ChatGPT edu is “built for education with enhanced privacy and insecurity.“

Now that the warm weather has arrived, some annoying little animals like moths and mice come to us. What can we do with them? Well, of course, worship them. Or at least that is what Martin of Braga says that the rustics in the Suebi kingdom of Gallaecia in the 6th century did.
