was feeling a little cocky translating with my english/german dictionary, fairly straightforward sentences to an english speaker that's when it hit me with a "Sie machten zum Lohn ihm die Hälse frei", where i had to go step-by-step detangling "they make of the reward/salary [to] him the neck free"

one fun thing for me about translating german to english, is that german's about 1 millimeter closer to my dialect of english than the main american one "sich X sehnen" miiight be translated as 'craves X' or 'craves X for himself', but unless i'm way off here, it works as 'craves him some'

i'm just a high school german class graduate but they've completely changed the meaning of half these lyrics (for the better maybe?) it feels like the songwriter has a great sense of poetry in german, that doesn't translate at all to english- that might be just me unfamiliar with colloquial deutsch

Also do not mistake my commentary for an assertion that the epic anti robot slur is good actually. Playing the "what if there were a Good Slur" game is self-mutilation. You will become a worse person if you do it. This is a more durable case against it than "the tech priests will take your insulin".
