If you ask this to Opus or Fable, it'll trigger a safeguard or a refusal (Anthropic, to their credit, saw this coming). But because they use a shared encryption method across models, you can feed the thinking trace into Haiku and it will happily report what the thinking trace says.

If AI accounts for only 20% of data center use, why is it the justification for nearly every new data center? I did the math and suspect Big Tech is using AI as a cover for unpopular uses like surveillance advertising. blog.still-water.net/what-if-data...
A chart showing a log-log scatter plot that shows big tech is spending far more on AI than it earns from it. The x-axis shows annual data-center and compute spend in billions of dollars on a logarithmic scale from $25B to $300B. The y-axis shows AI revenue run-rate in billions of dollars on a logarithmic scale from $0.35B to $320B. Seven companies are plotted as purple dots. xAI sits at $31B spend and $0.5B revenue, the lowest revenue point. Oracle is at $60B spend and $12B revenue. OpenAI is at $120B spend and $25B revenue. Meta is at $135B spend and $0.5B revenue, far below all others at its spending level. Alphabet is at $185B spend and $30B revenue. Microsoft is at $190B spend and $37B revenue, the highest revenue point. Amazon is at $200B spend and $15B revenue. A green dashed diagonal line marks break-even where revenue equals spend; all companies sit far below it. A red dashed diagonal line marks 10% revenue recovery; most companies cluster near or below it. Vertical error bars on Oracle, Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft show the estimated range between reported AI revenue and a conservative first-party-products-only floor, with Oracle having the longest bar, dropping from $12B to approximately $1.5B.

If you're already using OpenTelemetry, you don't need to change a thing to have your existing traces show up in Sentry's trace explorer. Sentry's OTLP support is currently in open beta 🎉 Check out the full blog post to learn more! blog.sentry.io/send-your-ex...

Send your existing OpenTelemetry traces to Sentry
You don't need to rip out your OpenTelemetry instrumentation to use Sentry. Two env vars point your existing traces to Sentry's trace explorer.

Agents generate a lot of important artifacts, some of which shouldn't live in your code base. So what can you do? I'd like to introduce you to gest. Manage artifacts and agent tasks right from the command line! gest.aaronmallen.dev #ai #rustlang #buildinpublic

Everyone knows that the x86 ISA is big.
Modern CPUs have ~1000+ mnemonics. Guess how many make up 90% of compiled C/C++ code? TWELVE. I'm not kidding. The question is…what if we shrank it?

After 2 months of work, the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 video is here. I interviewed most of the game's senior leadership team asking one simple question: how did you do this? Their answers were inspiring and moving, and it's no surprise that COE33 is as remarkable as it is: youtu.be/mXLOLgC2V2Q?...

I’ve been learning #vulkan #graphicsprogramming on and off over past few years and this is as far as I’ve come. Written in #rustlang, GPU driven, deferred renderer, frustum culling, PBR materials, point light with cube map shadows, bloom (red bias to emulate film halation). youtu.be/46ZGXjwLMzs

Sure, but the popularity of cigarettes et al can speak for itself, too. We realized there were real harms to cigarettes and took steps to minimize their use. At this point I think we need to be having honest conversations about what is and isn't healthy for our minds.

Why do video games cost so much to make these days? A recent NYT article pinned bloated budgets on the graphical arms race, but that's only a small part of the equation. The real problem? Rampant mismanagement. This week's column is a spicy one: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

Graphical fidelity is only part of the reason that game budgets have swelled to hundreds of millions of dollars

In our next Tiny Glade update we'll bump the light limit from 32 to 32k while keeping the cost more or less the same. The small limit has been a cop out, as we didn't quite know how to render huge numbers of (screen-space) shadow-casting lights without severe performance degradation.
