I'm sure all these companies and their employees feel good about having smoothed over the grooves in their brains only for the cost of the Occasionally Accurate Thinking Machine to skyrocket.

There's a Grim New Expression: "AI;DR"
The slang is a sign of how overrun the internet is with AI slop — and how the real humans using it are fed up.

they say we are oppressed and then start oppressing us. the same thing happening again and again in Türkiye, in Cyprus, in Azerbaijan, and now in Europe too. i wish politicians would leave us alone already #handsoffwomenschoices

Catober Day 13: Larry 🎤 Patreon.com/ScottMetzgerCartoons
A banner at the top reads, "Tuesday, October 13." Below, there's brief poem: "Larry misses his human/While he's far away./ When his human comes home,/ Larry's ready to play." The illustration shows a cat greeting a man near the front door of their house. The man is holding a suitcase and he's looking down at the cat, saying, "I hate this game." The cat is holding a microphone and a piece of paper, like a game show host. Behind the cat, there's a game-show-type sign that reads "WHERE DID I BARF?"

it's the end of the hazelnut harvest season in Türkiye and the stink bugs are invading the village again. hopefully, they will be gone by next year, because farmers report yield losses of up to 40% time for us to go back to the city

reading 1984 in this day and age was a mistake. even ten years ago, it would have hit differently... more like dystopian fiction rather than a roadmap. thankfully, i came across an article pointing out that the use of past tense in the appendix could be a sign that the Party eventually died #booksky

The Strangest Idea in the World
Here’s the biggest mystery in human history: Why did it take us 300,000 years to invent the toilet? In fact, why did discovering everything take so long? Why do some discoveries and inventions happen ...

Two hours in Vienna. One train stopover. Instead of sitting on the platform, we borrowed shared bikes and pedalled the length of Argentinierstraße: Vienna’s first Dutch-style fietsstraat; where cars are guests and bikes set the pace. Sometimes you don't need a whole day to discover a city by bike.

Saki is becoming fast one of my favorite authors #booksky
quote form "Beasts and Superbeasts" by Hector Hugh Munro (aka Saki): "It was autumn in London, that blessed season between the harshness of winter and the insencerities of summer; a trustful season when one buys bulbs and sees to the registration of one’s vote, believing perpetually in spring and a change of Government."

came home after a few weeks in the wilderness to find that the fuse blew who knows when and everything in the freezer and fridge rotted and oozed out onto the floor. the smell was horrible!! we cleaned the fridge, but i don't think it will ever smell neutral again. so, we need to get a new fridge

currently reading George Orwell's "Keep the Aspidistra Flying". not sure how it is going to end, but enjoying quotes like these #booksky
Quotes from George Orwell's "Keep the Aspidistra Flying":
"It was an example of the fact that you can get anything in this world if you genuinely don't want it" and "When he was arithmetically young, had he ever made any kind of stab at life?"

finished reading Middlemarch. most characters were believable, some were relatable, and a few over-the-top dramatic. the storylines were nicely connected, but very drawn out. it felt like the author too was tired and wrote an abrupt ending. i for one, was certainly ready for it to end

If you don’t know how they work, just know 3 things about LLMs: 1. They don’t learn 2. They don’t think 3. They don’t understand Here’s a good article that describes in detail what they do: www.0xkato.xyz/how-llms-act...

no, i didn't start reading Middlemarch after the Guardian ranking :) it did get a backseat lately to make room for lighter reading with shorter stories. now that the days are longer and the semester is at a close i can get back to it #booksky
quote from Middlemarch: "... though in reality half of what he saw there was no more than the reflex of his own inclinations. The difficult task of knowing another soul is not for young gentlemen whose consciousness is chiefly made up of their own wishes."
