This said, one demonstration of power is the ability to make people say, do, or tolerate absurdity.

It's a great place to party. Less so to do commerce or receive healthcare.

This is a reminder that friends don't let friends read Annie Jacobsen books. She is a crank. For almost any book she has written, someone else has done it better. Even her good work, such that it exists, is tainted by the bad.

A Nazi bar... When you have Nazis to the right and Hamasniks to the left, it pays to have sharp elbows.

tHe UnIpArTy 🤪 You seem down, instead of happy that Jill Stein saved Gaza and Susan Sarandon has been elected Khaleesi there. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Successful socialism has relied on a positive vision for the future. Unfortunately, the DSA and Green Party dead-enders are just misanthropes who have an odd predilection for using homophobic slurs.

Which made voting Democratic in 2016 an imperative. Just like in 2024. Susan Sarandon will not have to reckon with any of the negative consequences of her advocacy in 2016 or 2024...

There was no Democratic trifecta when either Scalia (February 2016) or RBG (September 2020) died. The Republican Senate prevented Obama from nominating a successor to Scalia. Trump got 3 justices in during his first term.

1) and 2) are linked insofar as supposed despair causing protests (see image). Programmatically, it means voting Democratic, even if only for strategic reasons, while pressuring Democratic elected officials for higher taxes, UBI, etc.

The lessons are: 1) Despair is prideful and a luxury 2) Incremental progress works better than chaotic protest 3) Americans are more conservative than progressives and socialists admit

But I agree that Susan's opposition to Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party shouldn't be forgotten. The same with Tom Morello and Kamala Harris.

Yes, she did. She endorsed Jill Stein and the Green Party spiked the vote in four key states, in which its popular vote was more than Trump's margin of victory. Nader's Green Party spiked Gore in 2000, which allowed for the Iraq War... 🤷🏼‍♂️ www.theguardian.com/film/2017/no...

It should be easy for pro-Palestinian activists to condemn Hamas, if only for the fact that it has immiserated Palestine. Few Germans in the Soviet occupation zone (1945-49) had trouble condemning the Nazis, and not because of Nazi crimes, but German ruin.

You can be a leftist and support a more progressive United States. However, the critical left believes that the US is evil and illegitimate. I believe they hate Democrats because they believe Republicans are the true representatives of America, just like socialists who hate social democrats.

It's interesting how many pro-Palestine activists seem to think that over a century of formal international humanitarian law (to say nothing of practical historical examples) applies only to Israel and the IDF, and not to Hamas and the Qassam Brigades. #Israel #Gaza #Palestine #Hamas #IDF

Hamas engaged in a genocidal massacre on October 7th, filmed it, and bragged about it.

Many pro-Palestinian activists in the West dislike Ukraine. They will deny 10/7 but claim Ukrainian Neo-Nazis are terrorizing Russians. However, if Israel had treated Palestine after 10/7 the way Ukraine treated Russia after 2/24, they'd have little to complain about.

Most killing isn't stopped. No one intervened in Chechnya. Notably, terrorism against Russians in the 2000s-2010s, killing ~1,000 neither liberated Chechnya nor softened Russian-local oppression.

I have some unfortunate news about Pakistan and Turkey for you then, among many others... Regardless, the PLO and PA recognize Israel within the Green Line (pre-'67). Hamas attacked into Israel *proper* on 10/7. Not illegal West Bank settlements. Not the sea-based blockade.

Well, the ICC has arrest warrants out. Countries are cutting ties with Israel. Killing Israeli civilians, laws and morality aside, is counterproductive: it reduces support and sympathy for Palestinians.

If armed formations naturally tended towards "gentlemanly" warfare, there would be no need for laws. Laws become necessary to prevent reprisals and spiralling after one side has violated them.

Azor-in-Exile @azorr.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
There is no justification for targeting civilians. Other recent resistance movements have "attempted" to adhere to the laws of armed conflict (e.g. MK, PIRA), as have NATO (excl. Turkey) and Ukrainian forces.

We have to separate antipathy for Trumpism from our outlook for America. Right-wing populism is on the march in France and Germany, the two key EU constituents. If Democrats sweep Congress and achieve a supermajority this year, the US may well start to repair and reform while the EU spirals...

I think that Israel's response to October 7th has been genocidal. But October 7th, itself a genocidal massacre, came first. Neither side's crimes allow for targeting of the other's civilians or collective punishment.
