so we crossed the line twice but they didn't give us points and then *didn't* cross the line because of an egregious and dangerous penalty, which we *will* get points for (but NOT because of the penalty), refs already in playoff form

Define "trend"? In any case it's not solely about costs, it's about turning the healthcare system over to finance bros, and forcing everyone seeking care to navigate a kafkaesque nightmare of scams, opaque costs and arbitrary decision-making, all driven by profit seeking instead of patient needs

I would submit that the forced conversion of literally every aspect of medical care into a highly financialized profit-maximizing operation over the last couple decades *might* have something to do with the general decline in levels of trust lol

At the risk of stating the obvious, Dem politicians and consultants aren't fixating on Hasan *despite* the fact most ppl have no idea who he is, it's *because* of that. They think they can Sister Souljah him, and this will be a political masterstroke, because their brains atrophied in like 1994

I love her but I wish people wouldn't say there will never be another like her. She put in the work to enable hope, charity, and success in others every day & would want us to believe that a future of generosity & kindness is still deserved & possible even if she's gone now. We can all enable it.

I know all y’all loved Dolly, but I don’t think I can fully express how important she was to us here in East Tennessee. She will always be an icon for showing us how to embrace our better selves & be good to each other, representing our region with pride & grace, and modeling relentless generosity.

I think the universal grieving comes in no small part from the fact she represented the best of what America could be, and that she never stopped chasing that ideal, artistically and socially

Exactly. The show respects the dignity Hank finds in labor, but this is a man who sees selling propane & propane accessories as a moral precept. At base the show is about Hank's love for his community and innate sense of fairness overriding what he *thinks* is important. Minus that, he's just Buck

KoTH has affection and some sympathy for its characters, but is fundamentally a pretty pointed and systematic satire of the provincialism and hypocrisy of their conservative worldviews

P&R portrays Ron as a loveable goof with a heart of gold, and the show genuinely sees him as a useful antidote to Leslie's (presumed unserious) liberal idealism. Dale is consistently portrayed as a man with legitimately dangerous ideas, who is only safe to laugh at because he's also a hapless idiot.

In the context of US network television King of the Hill did not have small-c (or otherwise) conservative politics, it just portrays conservative characters. authorially that show is demonstrably to the left of, like... Parks & Rec lol

I broadly agree with this take but I also think it probably underweighs the radicalization potential (and, more concretely, the earned media) of major office campaigns; most obviously, the org's dramatic growth spurts all came directly after the Bernie, AOC, and Mamdani campaigns

It's this. Profits have been high over the last couple decades, and essentially all that money has gone to owners/investors instead of capital investment or labor, which means the rich are sitting on huge piles of cash that have to go somewhere. ergo comical asset inflation
