I heard that the Xbox team was around 300 people in the 360 era and multiple thousands by the Xbone era The 360 was a good product because it had leaders with a clear vision, novel ideas, and a tight team to execute The Xbone was a bundled mess of corporate interests

Along that vein, I also recently listened to GFW #116 where you and Shawn played a beautifully produced “merchants of cool” segment, which included SFX and music from your band along with other aspects of things that ended up in A Life Well Wasted youtu.be/IDX2NaHcjGg?... 17 years ago! So cool.

I recently started listing to an archive of “Out of the game” and in one of the episodes, you talked about A Life Well Wasted and how you’re hoping to make more episodes To my surprise, I found that you still are, and they’re produced so incredibly well. Beautiful work Robert.

Fantastic video Amazing how far solar + batteries go in situations where they’re the most reliable option

Excited to see it! In the 2000’s, it was also sort of like Cuba in the sense that you’d see many, many old American Chevrolets from the 50’s being fixed and driven every day. I think they had huge tariffs on new cars. Looking forward to your video about the tech!

Death stranding 2 feels overrated with review scores of 9s and 10s (and I say this as a big DS fan) Glad to see a lot more nuanced takes in this Reddit thread from hardcore fans www.reddit.com/r/DeathStran...

Jeff, as a death stranding 2 fan, you reaaally don’t need to play nor enjoy it Thankfully you don’t need to manage reviews at a large gaming media org where you need reviews on everything new Today, people follow you to hear about what YOU like (and also really dislike). It’s ok to not play DS2!

@garnettlee.bsky.social do you ever consider podcasting again on the regular? Maybe from an investor/game biz perspective? You and John D are the people I miss hearing from the most

Andor’s and Bix’s arc was done with bix specifically leaving him to focus on the rebellion (and likely because she knew she was pregnant) Why would should try to get back in touch with him? Completely invalidates the sacrifice she made when leaving.

The last conversation between Andor and bail organa was SO bad “Did you sleep well? “No” “Do you ever?” “No” “Me neither. We have something in common” Huhh? This again read like a typical Star Wars show level writing.

Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 14/05/2025
The rebel council having no reason to scoff at Andor’s news. What’s so unbelievable about the empire building a weapon? It suddenly felt like every other Star Wars show with characters being incompetent to move a plot along. The whole room I was in was yelling wtf?

Andor was an incredible show. But tbat last episode was SO bad that it left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt like it was written by a completely different crew. Ugh

Noticing that many PC games from the early to mid 2010s have an arbitrary limit of 200fps ie: - doom 2016 - mirrors edge catalyst - battlefield 4

+1 I have bobovr m3 pro strap that has a flip up visor functionality, ideal for going VR<->PC super easily I also have a long USB C cable w/ 20watts plugged into it almost at all times to keep it continually charged (so like an AVP), unless I need to unplug and walk around. Work great

A thread of thoughts on radiance fields, from my keynote at 3DV: Radiance fields have had 3 distinct generations. First was NeRF: just posenc and a tiny MLP. This was slow to train but worked really well, and it was unusually compressed --- The NeRF was smaller than the images.

end-to-end latency test for moonlight streaming from my PC (shown on the monitor) to me Steam Deck Total latency at 60fps is around a frame (16ms). Even less so for 90fps. Feels fantastic for playing with a controller

It’s just something that feels like it’s a core part of the steam deck/box/deckard experience. Why not make it *actually* great, esp when the better streaming option is readily available
000
Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 04/03/2025
Steam deck is a fantastic hybrid device though where at home, you link to your PC and play in super high fidelity with minimal battery drain and when outside/mobile, you play locally. if deckard and the steam box ideas are real, streaming from more powerful machines has to be a big use case too

Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 04/03/2025
Much lower latency, higher bandwidth (can look flawless), HDR, high frame rate streaming, virtual monitor auto-initialization and destruction, and support for an insane amount of platforms (for hosting and streaming to) I absolutely love it and use it daily.

Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 04/03/2025
Why doesn’t valve put any effort into making Steam Link as good as moonlight streaming? Such a shame! It’s a core part of the Steam deck experience

Ai is great case I can ask it “Yo bud ffmpeg command compress video to 720p 30fps make it good looking but under 30 mb no audio h264 mp4 stat homie keep it succinct” and get a perfect result

Currently dealing with two opinions at odds with each other 1. meta horizon worlds is cancer and is killing the quest vr dev ecosystem 2. meta horizon worlds is the reason why meta is subsidizing the headsets, which is how the quest dev vr exist in the first place Thoughts?

The camera’s here and I’m lovin it! Fantastic camera baseline, optical zoom, surprisingly decent quality in low light, a 3D display for preview, auto-alignment during capture, and a satisfying flip up/down mechanism for turning it on—15 year old tech! Will work on converting to spatial photos!

Ah that’s good to know. I noticed that there wasn’t an explicit # of Gaussian variable to adjust for ADC. I’ll try density of 2
010
Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 16/02/2025
heres a better comparison mcmc (screenshots 1 and 3) vs adc (2 and 4) surroundings are way more defined with ADC at the expense of detail on the subject scan itself
110
Azad Balabanian @azadux.com · 16/02/2025
Eh, ADC produced just as bad results with less detail on the actual building (sceenshot 1) however, i think it's better at reconstructing the surrounding (screenshot 2)
