"Indies will save us" No! YOU WILL SAVE INDIES! Go leave a review for that neat indie game you like, share the trailer for an upcoming game you're anticipating, tell your fave developer they did a good job, go tell people about such and such game that's just come out, you can make a difference!

found this cool 2025 elden ring dlc world design talk gamemakers.jp/article/2025... ... I don't rec this as a level design talk (composition-is-magic / leading lines etc != LD) but it's a nice environment art theory talk, and it's cool to see rare fromsoft blockout, dev shots, and iterations

how do I convince you that buying music directly from the artist is a very cool thing to do? how do I get you to understand that the most important part or the music industry is the musicians and that you should directly give them money in exchange for their music?

A David Lynch quote for every creative person who may need it today. It resonated with me when I came across it reading it in Lynch on Lynch.

" No, it wasn't. What makes you worry about things like that is when you start thinking about what certain people might say about it later. Because you're not really sure what they might say. And if you start worrying, you could make some really strange decisions based upon that worry. The work isn't talking to you any more; this worry is talking to you. And you become paralysed. So the trick is: you've got to forget making a hero or a fool of yourself and just try to get into that world. and if you can do that, and you feel good about the decisions that you make, then you can weather whatever good or bad storm comes along. " - David Lynch in 'Lynch on Lynch'.

Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:

And he said, "If everyone likes it, it means it's mainstream. It means it's conventional. It means it's already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don't want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn't like when they first encountered it, because that's where you really end up loving something."

Via @automaton-media.com, composer Uematsu: “I’ve never used AI & probably never will. I think it still feels more rewarding to go through the hardships of creating something myself. When you listen to music, the fun is also in discovering the background of the person who created it, right?" More:

It’s year five of moving from LA to Seattle. In the last year, I have purchased my first down jacket, merino wool layers and most recently — a wind jacket. My closet is slowly becoming gorpcore. It’s only a matter of time. If anyone reads this message, tell my family I love them.
