Be careful outside today, folks, and look out for your neighbors—especially the unhoused ones.
Georgia Heat Emergency

Heat index values above 110 degrees are expected across the state.
For the 12,000 Georgians experiencing homelessness, this is life threatening.

The Gaps
- Cooling centers close at 7 PM & overnight exposure is when people die.
- People with mobility limitations cannot reach cooling sites.
- LIHEAP cooling assistance only covers housed residents.

What You Can Do This Week
- Share the number 211 everywhere! It connects people to cooling resources.
- Organize a water drop in your neighborhood.
- Check in on unhoused neighbors during peak hours (11 AM - 4PM)
- Know the signs: confusion, no sweating, rapid heartbeat = heatstroke. CALL 911!)

Atlanta Cooling Resources
- Frontline Response (Dekalb)
2585 Gresham Rd. SE ATL
9 AM - 7 PM; transport from Decatur Library @ 8:30 AM
- Dekalb Libraries
Various: dekalblibrary.org
Normal business hours

WOW!! over 27k actions taken to fight against the OMB proposal through the #StandUpforScience action portal. Americans are taking action across the country, because scientific funding decisions should be guided by the expertise & the evidence, not political appointees & political ideology. 🧵:
map of the United States showing the number of actions taken in each state. States are shaded from light red (fewer actions) to dark red (more actions), with values ranging from 0 to 1,311 according to the color scale on the right. California is the darkest state, indicating the highest number of actions. Other states with relatively high action counts include New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Illinois, and Florida. The map visually highlights geographic differences in participation in Stand Up for Science's actions to fight back against the OMB proposal across the United States.
