Yup. There is no excuse. Real universities dismiss people who are found responsible for sexual misconduct.

But the consequence is significant and rapid. A good student discipline system keeps the community safe, and sends strong signals to all students about what behaviors are expected of them as members of the community. 4/4

This is important for conduct like sexual misconduct, stalking, and other forms of violence because it enables the university to act quickly to keep other people on the campus safe be removing a student found responsible for such actions. They are not going to jail, so burden of proof is lower 3/

"Responsible parties" that could not be charged in criminal cases because evidence does not meet "beyond a reasonable double" can certainly be found responsible for having violated university "prohibited conduct" and, if conduct was serious, dismissed. 2/

Important note about standard of evidence commonly used in university student discipline systems. It is NOT the same as in criminal or even civil law. It's just "preponderance of the evidence" or "more likely than not." 1/

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

If you do get an absentee ballot, you can either mail it back or “You or a near relative may deliver your completed ballot to your county board of elections or your county board of elections's drop box by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.” In person returns means you don’t have to worry about mail delay

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?
