I was a teacher in public schools for 17 years. Over the course of those years, I taught across K-12 in four different school districts & in 6 different schools & in two different states. All of them moved in the direction of abandoning whole texts.

I mean, most schools don’t have students read whole books anymore, so this isn’t that unique. That’s the curriculum that’s been pushed on public schools for the last 10 years & most have adopted it. My last admin actively discouraged teaching whole books in English class. It’s bleak out here!

It’s not just taxes on the wealthy, but closing many, many tax loopholes that serve the wealthy & corporations (like the carried interest loophole). Plus, as others have said, reducing spending on defense (& ICE!) would certainly help.

I love that show. The creator also did Dying for Sex & The Dropout (Elizabeth Holmes story). I will watch anything she touches. Alden (Steve Way) is my favorite character. Episode 6 really cemented that for me. Incredible comic timing & he is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise very intense show.
