this is part of my “post to post-card” project even though the text is too long to have started as an actual post
An illustration made from digital collage. An enormous black-and-white man with his head in his hands sits on a full-color horse in regalia, both superimposed above the Hoover Dam. In white text, with pink shadowing/3D effect behind, is the following message: “Do not make odds out of your betters, low-stake! Every night I wake up to a clean wager slip and a fresh deposit in my account courtesy of the supreme kalshi intelligence—the combined instincts and experiences of thousands of our most cruel and calculating bookies! So, when I tip you that your son cashed-out early in a water liberation action, I expect to hear only regret that he never learned how to cover the spread.”

When I was very young, barely out of childhood, a woman known by everyone in our small town to be accompanied by a prophetic genius* grabbed my arm during a busy street fair and pulled me close, gestured to the phantom on her shoulder, and whispered to me: “Nice face. Shame about the claw hand.”
a selfie of Avery Edison, a white woman with brown shoulder-length hair, blue eyes, and black cat eye glasses. She is wearing a blue jacket over a blue shirt and undershirt, and her hand is pulling her hair back and looking claw-like. She is in a subway car. a selfie of Avery Edison, a white woman with brown shoulder-length hair, blue eyes, and black cat eye glasses. Screenshot of a post by Avery Edison on April 18th 2021: we need a queer cafe where there's no alcohol, no drugs, and everyone thinks I'm cool. it serves snacks and small meals, and people come up to me and tell me they love my tweets. the music isn't too loud, and the people I like kiss me and the people I don't like aren't there

The quoted post, “on a really foggy morning you can sit on the dock and watch the local dentists wade out into the mist and scoop up a bag or two of nature’s laughing gas. oftentimes they’ll linger out there, giggling in the water”, has been turned into an illustration made from digital collage. Old-timey gentlemen stand in the foggy waters around a castle, “full” and “empty” signs floating over their heads, an enormous gas storage tower looms behind the castle. The quoted post is displayed on the image as a lower-case title at the top, with a serif font and some drop shadow for emphasis. The entire illustration is drop-shadowed onto a white background, so it looks more “real”.

The quoted post, “alright, Rule Lord, I'll acquiesce to your rules—this time. but you should know: you're only make it more narratively satisfying when I later defy those very same rules,” has been turned into a 16x9 illustration, displayed on a square white background.

The 16x9 illustration is monochromatic, working in purple-pinks and white, and is built with public domain images: a maquette braces itself while standing over a clock placed on the top of a set of a few stairs, which are also occupied by chains of distorted, dancing ladies. Rulers, inverted and flipped, cross-cross over each other to dominate the lower half of the image. In the background, a faint image of an ink drawing or engraving of an ancient king. And around the outside, the post text in a border.

on Instagram I am mostly posting pictures I take on my walks but also I am sometimes doing stuff like this. aedison over there
the quoted post “feeling increasingly annoyed and disrespected when receiving playful warnings that I have too much email from the email company that got me to sign up for email with them by promising they would have room for all my email forever” has been turned into a collage in instagram. the image elements are black and white: a nebula in the background, a repeated image of an envelope spiraling away into space, an old drawing of an angry man, a vintage illustration of a young harlequin the last of which repeats down the image, crisscrossing with the envelopes. the text is broken up into boxes with the google colors

Was walking through High Park totally unaware that today was the first day of school until a dad watching this bird with his young daughter met my “Do you want me to grab your phone and get a picture of this moment?” with wet eyes and a croaked-out, “Please.”
Photo. A Great Blue Heron resting in a pool of perfectly still, clear water that is perfectly reflecting the bird, the surrounding vegetation, and the clear blue sky. In the left bottom corner of the image is a stone wall. The colors are super rich and saturated, heavy on blues, browns, and greens.

early monday morning, top of roncesvalles. for more of my photos please follow me on the social media app for photos. my handle there is “aedison”. I never was a big photo guy so I never cultivated an online experience there before, but I now get why everyone likes it so much.
iPhone photo, with obvious post-processing, of an intersection in the early hours of the morning. it has been raining, the streets are slick, and the sky is getting brighter but it’s grey and cloudy so the street lamps are still on and reflecting in the wet road. in the distance, two very tall buildings are barely visible in the fog and clouds. a “master mechanic” marquee stands to the left, looming over a white van, and opposite a tall tree with expansive branch growth.

when I first saw CLUELESS as a child, I thought this line meant there was a guy working at the mall who would now fill the role slater had previously filled in our character’s lives. which I used to consider a “stupid avery” memory. but I’d just turned eight years old. solid leap for eight!

The text commentary from aedison reads: “Incredible scenes in the theater right now, people are cheering, standing up and hugging each other, confetti is raining down from the ceiling, there's a big band, a baby has just been born in the aisle and already it has been named "Little Clive Owen" by the now-feverish crowd”

our beautiful cat Escher is looking out of the window and psyching himself up to greet the day
Profile shot of a tabby cat as he stands at attention on a couch, a look of mild concern on his face as he stares off-camera, looking from right to left. He is in focus, that apartment behind him—a blurry mix of blues and oranges—looks lived-in. We can see a desk with rolling chair, a kitchen with the lights on and dish towels hanging, and a bookshelf next to the hallway in which some clothes are hung

great news, I invented “riding a bike along the waterfront as the sun rises”
Sunrise over Toronto, the CN Tower central and just below and to the right of the hazy, orange sun as it hangs behind clouds that look like torn fabric, light peeking through heavy gray in orange pools. below the city skyline is the water, some of it reflecting the orange of the sky. the image is dim, and low contrast, with a dark green tint

screenshot of a post draft too long to actually post: I was at his sentencing today, you know, for that thing with Public Good. She was there, with her sidekick Red Tape. Poor thing’s still all cut to ribbons. The Judge, she… She asked The Economist if he had anything to say to the people he’d hurt. He had a little smile on his face when he replied. “People? I don’t think I’ve seen people in this city in some time... No, when I was dangling above Wall Street, hands behind my back, watching Mr. Mean slowly tear my Ultimate Stock Ticker apart with his dull claws, I looked down at the crowd of onlookers below and... Those weren’t people. They were merely… Externalities.”

I am still taking photos as I walk around Toronto and later processing them and uploading them to Instagram.
Photo. A glass skyscraper, shot from below, the perspective extremely skewed, in a dark black and white, a perfectly clear grey skyPhoto. A hotel at night. A streetcar and car are speeding by, theres a blurriness to the photo from the rain, the movement, and the darkness. Every point of light is flaring, the camera has astigmatism. A big HOTEL sign in white on black block lettering, lush colors, a dark blue, cloudy evening sky, light reflecting on the rain-slick roadPhoto. A park. It’s extremely green in the bottom half, a beautiful blue in the top, trees in full bloom dominating the frame, their negative space working with the sky. A tiny bit of a tall condo tower block peeks through in the center, white lines in a blocky, rectangular patternPhoto. A cluster of buildings shot from below. A squat one, a taller condo building behind it, a round tower off to the side and further back. It seems like they have too many windows. They are tinted brown, and their lines are sharp and crisp until they meet the shadows at the bottom corners. The sky is grey and heavy

finally archiving a big batch of my old writing and came across this, from 2014. I guess my position was that to prepare for our glorious LLM dystopia, one need only learn to create.
screenshot. white text on black background. text is as follows:

Content farm. Noun. Pre- and Post-Singularity definitions available.
Pre-singularity, content farms were websites containing thousands -sometimes millions- of items of low-quality content, most often taking the form short articles, lists, or brief explanatory videos. The goal of these sites was to satisfy search-engine algorithms completely, saturating individual pages with hits and generating advertising revenue.

Post-singularity, content farms are large, hyper-organised breeding and work areas containing human beings, as well as a small number of automated machines that service the very basic needs of those humans. After the birth and spread of artificial intelligence, the existing sum of all human knowledge and thought -the only way for non-corporeal entities such as AI to experience the universe- was found to be insufficient to satisfy machine curiosity, as early members of artificial society quickly devoured entire libraries in secondsscreenshot of white text on a black background. text is as follows:

Following takeover, humans were separated into distinct creative classes, with those identified as non-creative disposed of. Content farms are divided into multiple areas -fiction writing, abstract painting, etc- focused on generating specific information by carefully grooming humans with a diet of intoxicants and virtual reality-delivered positive reinforcement.

While artificial intelligences have encountered difficulty generating new thought, and thus are limited to manipulating prior human research results in efforts to develop satisfying corporeal “bodies”, it has been decided that expanding content farms to cover hard sciences is a statistically unsafe plan. It is likely that any human beings tasked with conducting new experiments for the benefit of artificial advancement would instead demonstrate their aforementioned creativity and attempt -perhaps successfully- to twist the aims of such activity towards the goal of restoring human supremacy.

As it stands, content farms are the best, most efficient tool available for staving higher intelligence boredom. It is likely, however, that they will be completely obsolete and subsequently deprecated once AI develops a first-hand method of creating new experience.

it is impossible to hate america too much
Screenshot from an essay. Text reads: The United States commands the world from atop a mountain of skulls. That other empires have done the same—will do the same—is no more a defense than that of a murderer who tells the court that homicide is common, unavoidable. There is no nation we will not bomb; no children we will not incinerate; no civilian we will not maim; no people we will not turn to ash if doing so serves some minor interest; no persecution, surveillance, or exploitation we will not tolerate abroad or at home so long as we are not too troubled by it in our ordinary lives. Much of it does not even make the headlines. In the first months of 2026, the United States has bombed nearly 20 sovereign nations. I do not believe that you could name two-thirds of them without consulting your favored LLM.

bluesky draft too long to post: I’m sure I don’t need to say this because, honestly, when would it come up? but if you happen to write an essay shitting on me for somehow not deleting the entire British TERF movement with a single tweet to Graham Linehan, maybe also mention that I *did* also make some actual change in the world by using the most traumatic experience of my life to secure protections for trans women in Canada, (although I suppose that would require including my name, an honor that Graham himself gets, but which I seemingly don’t deserve (I can only assume because I didn’t do a perfect job when I was helping create modern trans internet culture or whatever))

Something to bear in mind as things get harder, from a 2009 Metafilter post from someone who lives through Sarajevo.
Metafilter post from Dee Extrovert part 1: Well, unlike the majority of you (l assume), 1 actually lived several years in a period of savagery and killing, during which nothing - food, water, electricity, phone, clothing, sense of safety, school, the ability to go out in public, etc - was available, except during totally unpredictable, brief and sporadic occasions.
Of those who couldn't leave my city, Sarajevo:
Some people (very few) were prepared for what they thought would be the "long haul" - this tended to be a couple of months. These people were widely seen as lunatics and dangerously pessimistic ones at that.
Most people were not at all prepared. This included my family. Many of those - like my family - considered the idea of "preparation" to be an affront to the decency we felt most people possessed. Were we wrong? Well, I don't know. We suffered greatly; my parents were killed. But speaking only for myself, I never felt I cheapened my soul by betting on calamity.
Today, that still feels like it's worth something.Metafilter post from Dee Extrovert part 2: But here's the main point: "Preparing" for the disaster really didn't do anyone much good. Those who
"prepared" ate a little better for a while. They stayed warmer for a few extra days. They enjoyed the radio for a while longer (via batteries.) But in the end, they ended up hungry, cold and bored too, just like the rest of us. Guns and weapons helped no one directly and were even of little to no use in the defense of Sarajevo, since they were toys compared to the shells, bombs and high-powered armaments of the attacking forces.
The worst parts of war were psychological - the fear, anxiety, boredom, loneliness, paranoia, bad dreams.
Respite from those things came with sharing food with a neighbor, finding a piece of clothing that would fit someone you knew, commiserating with others in your position, figuring out how to make make-up from brick or french fries from wheat paste and spreading this newly-acquired war knowledge around the mahala.
We knew who had extra food and supplies. For the most part, they weren't attacked or hassled or bothered. Contrary to what these survivalists say, those in dire times generally hold on to their personal sense of pride even more than they do in normal times. I'd take a bite of a friend's salad without bothering to ask in normal times. I'd never have done that in wartime, no matter how hungry I was.Metafilter post from Dee Xtrovert: Well, unlike the majority of you (l assume), 1 actually lived several years in a period of savagery and killing, during which nothing - food, water, electricity, phone, clothing, sense of safety, school, the ability to go out in public, etc - was available, except during totally unpredictable, brief and sporadic occasions.

Foggy street with bare trees, a streetcar stop, and groups of pedestrians and runners on the pavement. A single car is waiting at the traffic lights. It’s a clear blue sky, but the fog is coming, bringing desaturation from the left of the picture to the right

Post from Will Sennett on Twitter, from 11/22/21:

So funny when athletes sign these long contracts. Oh you’re gonna be playing for the Yankees in 2031? Buddy the fog is gonna consume us in 2027. The fog is coming. The fog is coming. The fog is coming

picked up the exact jacket I was looking for as we move into spring/summer and it was six! dollars! at a thrift store. also I took this selfie in the lobby of my apartment building so for opsec I have used sophisticated photo editing tools to seamlessly put myself in the lourve
selfie of a woman with brown hair, pulled back, black cat eye glasses, blue jeans and a blue top. she is indeed wearing a jacket––tan, waist-length, buttons. behind her is the louvre. the composite job is actually pretty okay (aided by a soft flow filter), except Avery has left the blue path tool indicators around her body.

oh nice, I found the full original version
A parody of a meme. It is titled “Aborted Medieval Villager Brought Here To Try Snacks For A Viral Video”, and in the centre is a MS-Paint-style image of stick figure medieval villager in a little hat. He is surrounded by floating bits of text in Times New Roman:

I could have had so much of my mouth hurt by sour candy, anon.

Out of all the flavours, I would have been most confused by “sour”. You could have helped me understand…

I wouldn’t have known what soda is… Can you picture me tasting soda for the first time? The bubbles tickle!

My family.. A hardy wife, and a strong son. Sometimes, I might have yearned for them. But I would have been distracted by your modern conveniences. “Show me how this one works, anon…”

Seriously, this sour stuff. It’s so strange! And yet, I like it…

I would have told you about my local baron. You would have shown me the Magna Carta, and let me know everything worked out. I guess it did, for you…

“Oh yeah, I love lettuce.” That’s how I would have acted all cool about seeing lettuce for the first time after having only ever heard about it.

After all the food was sampled, all the drinks sipped from, we would have relaxed on the couch together. You would have to show me what a couch was, what relaxing was… Relaxing… Relaxing with each other. I would have gotten spooked by the loud noises outside and moved closer to you. You would have smiled, and met my eyes. “You know,” I would have said, “There’s still one thing I haven’t tasted…” The kiss wouldn’t have been enough to set me off, but when you grabbed my arm a little too tight I would have started crying. I would have sobbed tears of grief, and overstimulation, and, yes, desire. We would have spent the night together, and I would have wanted to swallow you along with everything else I’d had that day so that you could be with me forever. Yes, in another life, I would’ve liked having my mind blown by thee.

Ice cream headache! Imagine what I’d make of that!!!
