Our alarm bell isn't as big as theirs 🙂 chose to wait for someone to pick up the story while we worked on a statement and started talks with the right people. Also needed time to independently confirm the full story

Unlikely. Already had conversations going with the state before KSL caught wind of it

It looks like UDOT has updated the Point transit project website to recognize the motion passed at the Oct 9 meeting. While UDOT still has no obligation to do this project, it is encouraging that they went back and made reference to this motion.

While we wait for FrontRunner trainset contract award to drop, it looks like the maintenance facility design contractor has already been announced. I wouldn't say this is the first contract of FR2X, and it's only a design contract, but this is significant nonetheless

While Ogden moves forward with plans to relocate its FrontRunner Station to Union station, it would appear that American Fork is doing the same. Their SAP released in September has landed on a couple options. One moves it closer to Pioneer X-ing, and two moves it close-ish to the future Pony express

I still think even with a new DMU facility, having one down south makes a lot of sense for having early morning/late night service down there. Some agencies will sometimes just park the train at the end of the line overnight to achieve the same thing, but a facility would obviously be better!

It's been difficult in the past because WFRC never had an avenue for community driven projects to make it on their radar, but they have launched a new program called "exploratory projects" which is designed exactly for projects that may or may not be municipality driven

It has plenty of acknowledgements in SLC documents at this point. And is getting even more attention in the WEConnect study. What sets this apart is it's the first official acknowledgement by WFRC. Lots of conversations had to happen to get here

This configuration makes it practically identical in number of seats and layout, to the Siemens S700. The other big hype was around the suspension. Which should make the rougher ride on the trunk line smoother for passengers.

Stadler gave a presentation today on the new CityLink vehicle they are making for UTA. The presentation confirmed the recent change to transverse seating (For wheelchair access), as well as a design top speed of 65 mph. Also confirming the previously promised 4 bike racks

Utah county, and specifically businesses like Adobe, were promised light rail over a decade ago. The mayor clearly realizes that the current alignment has the potential to jeopardize the entire project due to how its dependent on the point and state funding. Faster and cheaper is the blue extension
020
Jesse @averagejoejesse.bsky.social · 18/10/2025
All this goes to show that UDOT is at least recognizing the blue line extension as a possibility. I unfortunately don't know the outcome of the motion as I can't get ahold of a recording, but a blue ext really is a much better outcome for Utah county if they can keep the pressure on and change minds

Some slides from the mayor's presentation include a number of prominent silicon slopes businesses voicing support for blue ext. Presentation ended with the Lahi mayor asking for a motion for MAG to compel state agencies to reconsider the alignment of the point transit line.

Jesse @averagejoejesse.bsky.social · 10/10/2025
Since the full fleet calls for 40 DMUs, and this location would only be for 20, this still leaves the need for another facility elsewhere to be built or acquired
