it will atrophy your eng skills for sure brain is same as muscles - the moment you stop use it, it starts to atrophy in my case - I try to write code manually at least 1-2h a day

Didn't really want to sit much in front of computer, but I really wanted to share my knowledge about multi window support using flutter. Wrote article explaining all aspects and also created example app to show it in action - medium.com/@alexsinelni...

Multi window support with flutter desktop
One of things that flutter currently misses — multi window support. I’ve developed few desktop apps with flutter and made one open source…

Welcome to LLM powered social networks I had few like this on twitter, eventually banned, since they only do harm your views

Got multi window support to work on flutter/macos 2nd window is actually a NSPopover which acts as top bar menu dropdown Multi window support in flutter was always its weak point, but with just little bit of digging into internals - its not that easy to achieve #flutter

People who use it - they ignore the fact that AI generated text visible right away and that hurts them more than helps

easy engagement and views twitter was full of these bs products just few months ago, but ppl don't want to understand that they ruin their personal brand using AI responses

Took weekends off from social networks. Don't feel much rested though, but I don't have much thoughts to post. Feels like "being in stream" helps to generate post ideas PS: I have using AI to create posts, so you'll never see it on my page

Spent 30 mins debugging why some styles works on dev but not on prod. Well, turned out its how vile handle CSS compilation. In my case had to add this postcss section to get it compiled during assets:precompile step #rubyonrails #Ruby

Continue my work on updatify.io and today added new section where users can configure their project and also get script to install it. User gets redirected to this page right after creating new "Site"

Yeah, like 3 weeks ago he launched his app. Many people(car enthusiasts) just wants to look at cars, prices, etc, I do that myself pretty often too In case of auction - you probably want to bid even when you're not at home(computer)

Made this quick Cars&Bids mobile app prototype, just to find out Doug recently launched his own app. Well, lesson learned, you gotta be faster showing off something. Had this app gathering dust since August Fully operational, done with #flutter

So what's the point of Hotwire Native? How is it different from phonegap/cordova or any other web view based framework? All of them provided access to hardware APIs + some bridging mechanism to call native APIs(and components) There are tools like flutter, react native, why making one more?

I regret adding Vue.js to one of my rails apps. I started it few years ago when turbo wasnt popular and was lacking few features. Today I would go with Rails + Turbo + Alpinejs. This stack covers 95% of all possible frontend interaction cases

Few months later he came back with new idea and much bigger budget
000
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 26/11/2024
Yes, in this case, if client understands why you skip on some part of work that can really not just save money but also build trust I had similar case, when client with small budget wanted to try the idea. I put together MVP in just few days(it was mobile app) He tried and it didnt work. ⬇️

Problem is - most clients expect you to deliver full featured product for the fixed price. But development isnt something you can calculate precisely without even knowing tech requirements. This leads you to lose time(and money) agreeing on fixed price. There's only 1 case when fixed price works
010
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 26/11/2024
Thing is - there's lots of stuff besides development. Even simply calls to define tech requirements, create wireframes also takes time which often not added to fixed price As practice shows you'll always get less in per hour calculation when offered fixed price.
100
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 26/11/2024
Yeah, define scope, breakdown by deliverables and provide hours per each part. This adds transparency and also makes client to predict how much would extra feature cost knowing previous estimates/prices
000
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 26/11/2024
Never offer fixed price for the job you haven't seen yet Offering MVP for $5000 is a road to nowhere since you'll end up spending much more time than these $5000 covers I've done that mistake, so you shouldn't

Or if you know anyone who could connect me with decision markers on big streaming providers - I'd gladly talk with them
000
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
A billion dollar idea - Streaming service which connects all other streaming services together. Charge by watched hours(say $15 for 100stream-hours) and split income evenly by hours spend with content provided by according provider. Extra hours can be bought separately

Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
Thing is - its also common case when feature stays as is forever, without actually any extensions or additions 🧠

Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
For video recording app - yeah its a bit overhead, esp since I'm not doing lots of videos
010
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
I noticed I started to overcomplicate things. When working on simple feature I think about extensions I can add later and that turns from 1h task into few days job. I know this is partially "experience problem", since you already have done that many times and know what possibly can be asked extra

I came across this app, seem to be good one screen.studio

Now next question, what do folks use to record such videos 😂
220
Alex 🔔 @avdept.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
I intend to actually keep it ~5sec. In my case - thats showcasing some UI/UX feature, which hard to be done with image + text
