Boulder Bookstore is lovely and independent! It is a bit of a hike (45 minutes from downtown Denver to downtown Boulder) but could be worth it, depending on your transportation situation.

Not a parent, just advice I'd give young me: Take your time and explore. Use GenEd courses to find what she enjoys. A lot of colleges offer hyperspecific classes that meet grad reqs and are more interesting than the usual "Bio 101" type courses. She may just find something she loves.

When I was seven, my parents took me to see Rocky Horror Picture Show at Film on the Rocks, complete with the shadow performance/interactive elements – that should explain a lot about my unhinged nature. Thank you, Tim, for laying the weirdest foundations for me and so many other weirdos.

You can’t tell if someone is disabled just by looking at them. There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”. You are not entitled to a person’s entire medical history just so you can decide whether to believe them or not. People are not faking disability, most are trying to fake being well.

It weirdly makes sense, because there was a huge Italian immigrant community on the west side of Denver for most of the early 1900s. Knowing this doesn't make it any less jarring to see one of these in the wild, though.

I use Prose now but used to use Frizz Ease and DevaCurl, all are great for curly hair. Use a wide-toothed comb rather than a brush. NEVER use heat without heat protector spray, including blowdry, and if you do, use a diffuser or even the cold setting.

The scrunching motion is key. Curl cream + heavy duty gel mixed together and scrunched into wet hair (I mean WET wet), then scrunched again with a microfiber towel and air dry has given me perfect natural curls for 3+ years. Refresh btwn washes by combing, then dampening and re-scrunching.
