No home charger? No problem. We asked our coworker what it's like to own an EV and rely entirely on public charging. Read on for their experience and advice! AvaEnergy.org/insight/what-its-like-to-own-an-ev-without-home-charging
Person plugs in electric vehicle at a public fast charging station in a parking lot during daytime. Text reads "Insight. What It's Like to Own an EV Without Home Charging"Text reads "V and their wife are now on their second EV—a Kia Niro they’ve had since 2023—and they rely entirely on public charging.
V’s advice is to keep track of your typical weekly mileage, and then calculate how often you really need to charge based on the vehicle’s range. “You might be surprised by how low that number actually is. Maybe you only need to charge once a week, or once every 10 days or so.” AvaEnergy.org/Insights"

Summer rates are here ☀️ Between June 1st and October 31st, electricity rates will change to account for increased demand & generation costs. We recommend checking your rate plan and shift usage of electricity-intensive appliances and tasks during off-peak hours to help lower your bill. Tips:
Tip 1: Switch major appliance use to "off-peak" hours: before 4pm or after 9pm.Tip 2: Pre-cool your home by setting the thermostat lower in the morning, then to 78 degrees during peak hoursTip 3: Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day to reduce air conditioning usage.Tip 4: Double check your rate plan on PG&E and examine if you need to adjust your rate plan to better fit your schedule.
