Altair advertisement in Byte, Sept 1975: vintageapple.org/byte/pdf/197...
A full page advert. At the top, in blue, the text "Created by Man."

Underneath, a pencil drawing of a computer with the label MITS ALTAIR 8800 COMPUTER. It's sitting on a reflective surface in a large room. Behind, a wall of glass shows a valley with a path heading away from the viewer. A cuboid hovers in mid air. Above it, a single cloud.

Below, the text: "The Affordable Computer."

Micron advert in Byte, August 1997: vintageapple.org/byte/pdf/199...
A full page advert from the 90s. Top left: a colour photo of a man in a blue shirt and tie leaning back in an office chair with his hands behind his head, smiling at the camera. Behind him, sunlight coming in through a glass-block wall. The text of the ad is all-caps: "IF WE MADE OUR COMPUTERS ANY EASIER TO MANAGE YOU'D BE OUT OF A JOB."

Always love @aresluna.org essays, and this on Apple’s function key confusion is no exception, but perhaps especially so for this part. aresluna.org/fn/
‘There was a time when Acorn, creators of generally beloved computers, was called "the British Apple." Apple, you're breaking my heart with all this keyboard stuff, and so I'm telling you this with spite: You can do it. If you apply yourself, you can become the American Acorn.’

Objects, objects, everywhere… Databases in 2025: A Year in Review — www.cs.cmu.edu/~pavlo/blog/...
A screenshot of the text: "I worked on the F3 file format with brilliant people at Tsinghua (Xinyu Zeng, Ruijun Meng, Huanchen Zhang), CMU (Martin Prammer, Jignesh Patel), and Wes McKinney. Our focus is on solving this interoperability problem by providing both native decoders as shared objects (Rust crates) and embedded WASM versions of those decoders in the file. If somebody creates a new encoding and the DBMS does not have a native implementation, it can still read data using the WASM version by passing Arrow buffers. Each decoder targets a single column, allowing a DBMS to use a mix of native and WASM decoders for a single file. AnyBlox takes a different approach, generating a single WASM program to decode the entire file."

I really want to like the coding agents but all the ones I've tried are incredibly flaky. I don't mean in terms of the quality of code, I mean literally their basic operation. Recently, Gemini CLI got stuck in a loop deleting a line of code. Now trying Cline again, just errors all over the place…

Wait, wat? github.com/oils-for-uni...
However it uses a trick about zip files.. you can simply do this:

cat python_interpreter app.zip > oil.ovm

Then make oil.ovm executable. When it runs, it will run the Python interpreter -- the stuff at the end is ignored. The zip file header lives at the end of the file, so oil.ovm is both a valid ELF file and a valid zip file. And then the Python interpreter has to find ITSELF to open() app.zip!!! This location is set to PYTHONPATH dynamically (i.e. since PYTHONPATH=app.zip is a conventional way of looking inside a .zip file.)
