I really can't get past the idea that if I had unlimited time to make my dream game, I think I'd ultimately end up just remaking Might & Magic VIII. It really is kinda just the perfect video game in so many ways.

The reason we have all these Claude-built recomp/decomp projects is because the AI dorks couldn't figure out how to shoehorn LLMs into games that were made 20 years ago so they all got together and had their agents do a little brainstorming and came up with a strategy to ruin yet another good thing.

People have their reasons and I'm sure its more complicated than that, but I wince a bit when I hear "its a good game for its time" said. Its at worst condescending, but more often just wrong, or at least the wrong framing. Metroid is a good game in 2026.

I still strongly recommend A Monster's Expedition. Far and above my favorite Draknek game. The writing is charming and the puzzles are incredibly creative.
