I'm due to teach our 20th c. US history graduate seminar this spring, and while I don't have the new one worked up yet, here's what I taught last time around. (And I'm sorry, I can't alt-text these as they're much too long.) Part 1:

1.) This was fun. 2.) If I win, I hope it's because I put Tage as a 50 goal scorer 3.) If I lose, I hope it's not because my sleep deprived, new-baby self put Joe Sakic as a GM to keep his job

Faculty member to me yesterday: You aren't using Instagram right. Why aren't you posting flyers for my events so students attend?

@mcuban.bsky.social can you help nationalize this?? Ive called my local town dept. about our playground/basketball court/baseball field every 3 months for 5 years and nothing is done. I live across this space and we'd have 15-25 families a day there to now 1-3 now that its dilapidated

Its early in the process, but Zhilkin has that Victor Eklund feel to him coming into the season: competitive and willing to get to the dirty areas, theres skill there but still has some development, but youd bet on the way he plays the game and how all the tools mesh for him to be effective

There are still a few more days for fans to vote, but this is how Chad, Eddy, and Austin ranked the Sabres prospects under 24 this year who have played fewer than 41 NHL games.

I wrote this almost three weeks ago. Adding in the Hlinka to this, I don't think much has changed between what I saw at the end of last year and where he is right now after the Hlinka

Haha this tournament is impossible to scout when Canada is playing and all the US market is showing is Canadian games in the round robin

So...I've done a thing. I started my own scouting website. I plan on doing two free pieces of content a week and then have a paid subscription for people who want deeper dives or access to my unfiltered game reports, my raw tracking data, and full draft rankings and logic behind them

Today marks the end of an era, as @smahtscouting.com has decided to shut down. Thanks always to @joshtessler.bsky.social for the opportunity and just being an all around good friend. So I find myself a free agent as well on July 1st. We'll see what doors open up next.

Now...now we get into the fun stuff

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

The more I watch Beckett Hamilton (21), the more convinced I am that I ranked him too low. He did EVERYTHING for his junior team. He led the dataset in shot attempts/60 and was a one-man offensive show who was tenacious on pucks defensively.

010

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I always came away from Adam Goljer's games (22) is that he's able to win puck battles, and will challenge players in transition and force them wide. Puck management has some development still, but a late birthday and a played the the majority of games against men will help him continue to develop.

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

Probably the most fun clip of Niklas Aaram-Olsen (17) I have and the most fun viewing was the u18 game against Germany where he scored twice within the last minute and a half to tie and then win the game for Norway. Just a laser beam of a shot.

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I'll be honest: I didn't clip many for Juho Piiparinen. He was just so steady in my viewings and played a simple game as a RHD against men. This isn't the greatest example of transition defense, but it does show his offensive breakout strategy of carrying to a point and then feeding his outlet

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

He gets inside all the time to take his shot. I really, really liked his game post-Mathis Preston as he demonstrated that he can transition the puck and not hinder transition. Did I also mention he is a pest and loves to hit?

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

Every year I end up with a player I love more than everyone else. This year, that player is Chase Harrington (26 in clips). He's got puck-skill, good mobility, is physical as all hell, and leads my dataset in dangerous shot attempts per 60. However, if I gave you his summation clip, it's this one

100

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I got into my feelings with this one. Look, I ranked Chase Reid higher than Bjorck. Chase Reid is the logical choice if he's available. Just...hear me out on why Bjorck would be special wearing the Blue and Gold

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I have no idea if/when Wiggo Sorensson goes in 2026 NHL draft. Playing Division 2 for most of the year, he exploded in the u18s to go from a fun story to a legit chance to be a mid-round player (22). He's nifty in everything offensive that he does.

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I'm already kinda shaking of how excited I'd be to have both Bjorck and Benson haha

000

Austin Brass @austin716.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

Look....at 4th overall the Sabres have the OUTSIDE chance to take Stenberg if the Sharks go Reid and the Canucks go nepotism. I love Villeneuve but I can get him at 20...hell maybe 45. Reid would make the most sense if he fell, but holy hell I'd freak the f*ck out if we took Viggo Bjorck

Vsevolod Matveyev (93) is in an adjacent archetype as Vertti Svensk: a highly mobile defender whose skating is the going to give them a shot to maybe play in the NHL. Unlike Svensk though, Matveyev has a ways to go in utilizing his speed to become an offensive weapon. An example of good:
