marvel rivals talk time: i wanted to fit in one last ranked game before season 9, since i won't be home when season 8.5 ends. ended the season in plat III. i'm satisfied.

I didn’t know Olhava’s label had the reach to make it into Tower Records’ vinyl marketplace (same as I didn’t know that my old label’s distributor could put my CD into Tower Records) but I’m very happy they did and listening to it on vinyl is … majestic. Love that album.

An unopened copy of Olhava’s 2020 album “Ladoga” as a 12” double vinyl album. It has since been opened and thoroughly enjoyed.

I thought I had a better picture than this in my camera roll but it gets the point across: while not most Tokyo subway platforms have barriers, a lot of them do and they don’t look like they’re trying to cage people in. Plus, the ones in Shibuya even have LCD displays just to run advertisements.

marvel rivals talk: i finally did it. i reached gold III. this was difficult, not because of the competition, but because apparently nobody on the tokyo server wants to play competitive mode, so i decided to brave bad pings and play it on oregon and singapore servers. my psylocke is also a lord now.

i don't know if you've ever delved into the hell that is YouTube Playables, but this one tickles me. I assume it's meant to be a game that combines football/soccer and the Japanese gambling machine pachinko. So they called it "FootChinko." However, in Japanese, "chinko" means penis. "FootPenis."

Artwork for the YouTube Playables game "FootChinko," which is based on football/soccer and pachinko, but is unaware that "chinko" means "penis" in Japanese.

Quebeçois bière is some of the best beer in the world, however, due to weird laws about brewing only certain amounts of batches, there’s not many that leave Canada (except for Unibroue, represented here by the lovely La Fin du Monde). My favorite of these is Corne de Glace, a 14% ABV Scotch ale.

Three bottles of beer (bière) from Quebec circa 2017: Corne de Glace (Scotch ale, 14% ABV), La Fin du Monde (Belgique style tripel, 9% ABV), and St. Ambroise Érable (maple flavored beer, 4.5% ABV).

le sigh. you know, it’s nearly impossible to get off their mailing lists once you’re on, but this one seems particularly pathetic. it costs nothing to do your job. it costs nothing for 70+ yr olds to retire. it costs nothing to let leaders like AOC take the reins. no, you will not be getting my $5.

Today at RecoFan in Akihabara, I snagged the Burning Car 12” EP (a Japanese exclusive in its day) and it only reinforced my enthusiasm about the music of John Foxx and how in a different universe, I could claim him as a musical influence. But hey, there’s no time like the present!

Here’s one of my favorites in my small yet growing (second) vinyl collection: Metamatic by John Foxx, in what seems to be an original Japanese pressing. The album is amazing, but sadly for me I only got into it 30 years after I could claim it as an influence!
