A January treat for myself landed today, just after I'd finished carving out my second ever spoon. Quite enjoying carving and whittling away in the shed. Messy, but fun.

Hudson, vet tells us he's to lose some weight. He's not overly happy at the 'meagre' supply of kibbles he gets before bedtime. He complains quite loudly.

Family all away and the house is very quiet, even though they weren't noisy. Fire roaring, candles lit, book to read, Dirty Three keeping me company and was out for a short walk in the hills earlier.

Daughter and partner got me this for Christmas. Gandalf and Durin's Bane on the bridge of Khazad-dûm and a Tolkien's World cookbook, they know me too well. I'll be baking lembas bread in my new jumper 😄

Update. There'll be no beers or food with young Howie today. All trains cancelled. Hopefully tomorrow. An afternoon with the fire on and Star Trek: The Next Generation awaits. Halfway through the penultimate season.

Came up on my memories from 12 years ago, went for the Earl Hickey look, Janine wasn't impressed. I've a great deal more grey in the hair and beard now, although I do still have and fit the shirt.
