I think there’s at least some evidence that the endless search for popularist appeal to some “middle” voter with incoherent sets of views is doomed to be…incoherent. People with developed political views can’t imagine the incoherence of the median voter running on vibes and uncle lore. Exhibit A:

It’s really not the current affair he should be judged on, but his “scholarship” of eugenics/neo-phrenology, which is dangerous garbage with no place in any academy.

Not that I expect Economist writers to be troubled by violently fascist corporate manifestos, but if you’re the British government, Palantir executives should have been shown the door long ago. Explicit Nazis doing treason.

Their leaders probably know intuitively that all politicians and media treated them as the only “half the country” that matters and the only “real” Americans against whom all others are inauthentic and not entitled to anything. That, and no Dem living or dead would even think about it, alas.

Once, this stuff strained credulity. Now, we're all just this guy, gesticulating wildly as American voters work through the Book of Revelations very unironically.

There will be a lot more norms broken on the way to pushing out the lawless fascism that’s infected our government. And people should be clear it’s not great stuff to be doing, but that the alternative is utter collapse.

I’m less troubled by that argument than their appeal to independent sovereignty from the laws of the state. I don’t like it, but the move seems to be follow Florida and Georgia in allowing the removal of disfavored prosecutors. Dems can’t eternally play the passive role in these conflicts.

Absolutely-this is serious constitutional hardball and the risks are significant. But I think the governor would have a strong position, at which point it comes down to what men with guns are willing to do in the face of the law. But we cannot play a game where only one side escalates endlessly.

2 things seem true: Obama knows how to win elections (but had 0 coattails) While braying about kitchen table issues (that revealed culture war preferences reliably trump anyway) may win marginal elections, it’s absolutely not a strategy for countering fascism, or doing anything at all.

Few deserve this offensive Nazi crap more than Randy Fine, who is himself an obsequious fascist lick-spittle who has shown himself ready to say or do anything to subvert America’s laws and institutions.

This would probably be fine in a state with some sort of vaguely functioning legislature. But, it ends up being a source of endorsement corruption and illicit horse trading. Having a part-time legislature making full-time money (while having legal clients with state business) makes it all worse.

Perhaps when this current genre of embarrassing pseudo-legal debauchery goes out of fashion, you can host a Tolkien-esque party.

Some people say that opinions and values are different. But here at the Times, we look in the mirror and see only the endless abyss of the Sulzberger family’s reactionary hot takes.

Before you take a paean to government surveillance seriously, maybe find a take from someone on this website who wasn’t a General Counsel for the NSA. Second one in two days.

It's worth remembering that only the very particular media elite class that believes "Republicans are bad, but Democrats are woke and that's the same thing" have any use for Emanuel. And of course, they have to generate any political relevance for him out of whole cloth.

And a special place in whatever hell I can get a curse tablet for to the Raspberry Pi engineers who across 2 generations adopted mini/micro HDMI, mini/micro USB, and seem to choose what connectors each board has in this way:

We need to bring back curse tablets, to allow venting against those who have wronged us in unredressable ways. The engineers who adopted mini and micro variants of their connector standards (HDMI, really!?) The people making my car who decided it needed a nice smattering of mini and micro fuses

Real talk though. All chocolate croissants, from a New York deli counter to the finest Parisian bakery, have a pointless amount of chocolate in them, and are awful.

It's 2026, and based on what we've seen, there's no reason at all to think this would cost any Republican in a deep-red district to lose a single vote. Mostly because they're busy comparing their plight to that of the Germans signing the Treaty of Versailles.

Let’s suffice it to say that civic canonization was the least the fascists for their Horst Wessel. No matter how many times people said the killing was deeply bad, no kook could hear them on the march to monetizing/exploiting it in the most cynically nihilistic way imaginable.

The people spreading this don’t understand that this IS a display of basic American values. That is, when Disney was being harassed by a kook fascist, people rooted for Disney, and when Disney folded to a fascist President, they condemned it heavily. The idea of a civic/moral value is foreign.

Imagine someone whose views were so immoral and odious that even in mourning, no one (even supporters) can accurately quote or even summarize his views (to the extent that propagandists ever have any).

Sure do! And I suppose I’ve always seen them as a barometer for a candidate’s ideological position in their party. Republicans can get Conservative or Liberty or Constitution party endorsements. Democrats can get the Working Families Party and others.

Boredom and affluence are funny things, and a whole lot of people just went politically insane based on just laughable nonsense. Maybe when their banks start paying extorted billions into the fascist slush funds, people might wake up. But I doubt it.
