Every 1-2 years, I piss about with small synths in a field, so the Kastles, Volcas and probably the FM-1 get used. Not happy with how little I use the Mother32, and other analog bits but there are things I wanna do with 'em. *Probably* life squeezing my capacity for play out of me rather than G.A.S.

Cheerful little thing, though. Wish I knew how b0rked the BLE MIDI is. If I get the CA noises going, I might justify getting another just to have a choice of firmwares. Probably more use than some Behringer things that are 25 quid more. Going back to see if I can do WebMIDI from proper Python.

Dunno where I'd start WRT pissing about with firmware, if ever. I want one voice of polyphony for each cell in a strip from the CA. FM-1 has supposedly twice the voices of a Volca FM2 for < half the price. Can't go wrong at that price if a hardware DX7 is what you want. I wanted voices for cheap.

Tried sending an FM-1 BLE MIDI in micropython from my cellular automata app on my EMFcamp badge. Connects, no noises. BLE thru box works. Dunno if the thru box is too permissive and my code is shite, or the FM-1 is too picky. Other things can send it BLE MIDI, though. Could just plug the bugger in..

I can test my slightly stupid "shunting-yard" algorithm code by pasting in "(c+r+c*r+l*c*r)%2" which is supposed to be equivalent to rule 110, and it seems to work. Perhaps I'll fix it and you can play too.

"Speed of light" is up to 2 cells per generation, so not a Wolfram (bleah) elementary CA. Only 2^(2^3) of those, slightly crazy how much bigger 2^(2^5) is. 2^(2^6) for 2nd-order CA with "p" for previous state. You're supposed to be able to play with with WASM, but I b0rked it on my github.io.
