Wow. Showing up for every vote counts and local elections matter. I haven’t always liked what Andy Hawes said/did but I know he has stood up the Liberty Dogs that attack access to reading. Also he took Covid seriously. (Less than a hundred vote diff??)

Today I learned that someone I’ve known for years and years, but hadn’t chatted with in awhile, died when hit on her bike by a vehicle. Kermit* was a camp counselor when I was a CIT and then we continued to work together a few more years at BCAC. (*camp name, real name Jennifer Buehler). 1/

Applying to fed jobs has always had some coded patriotic themes but this is a new level. TLDR: how will you make US more efficient and what’s your fave presidential order these days??

Y’all. When I lived in SEAK I was obsessed with the local newspaper police blotter. I made collages of top tier crime. I thought they were all gone and I just found one. This is #sitka circa 2000/2001? You’ll def have to hold and zoom in…

I decided as I approach my 50th I’m aiming to do **50 new things this year.** They don’t have to be epic, just a way to spend time with people/keep exploring. Time is the biggest gift you can give, after all. I started this journey today heading to Trinity Hot Springs…and yes I made a spreadsheet.

Tried to help a student find federal data. Data is gone and was forced to see this. PS: use (and donate to if you can) the Internet Archive! They got us what we needed today. There is zero reason that websites should be scraped during a shutdown.

Did 37 mile backpack in 3 days. Lots of up up up and down down down, a few passes, many creek crossings, soooo many mushrooms, mountain lakes and an hour of howling wolves at dawn

Her Meridian. I don’t work for MLD any more so I can openly talk about who to/not to vote for. DM me if you have info on the other candidates. Also everyone: check for your small local May elections. Go vote small and local! Two of those that petitioned to close MLD are on the ballot.

During Covid, then later with job instability, I made a local bucket list. Accomplished one of them yesterday! I am thankful for the running community that embraces weird adventures and shows up for each other. Swan Falls/Celebration loop. Rock huts, petroglyphs, geology!

Thank y’all for showing up today for public lands. I was conflicted but today was my fave race that supports a rural Title 1 school. So…I chose running on public lands and having direct impact was where my heart was in this moment. But I do appreciate y’all being there. (zoom in you can see peeps!)
