During the 2026 Auckland Pride Festival, we were so honoured to work with Buddle Findlay on a panel discussion discussing the legal and political contexts of 40 years since the passing of Homosexual Law Reform in Aotearoa.
Photo of the auckland pride team and the panel featured Chris Carter, Louisa Wall, Chlöe Swarbrick, Richard Hills, and Shanan Halbert.

Text: Auckland Pride is appalled by the Government's decision to ban new prescriptions of puberty blockers for transgender young people. This announcement on the eve of Trans Day of Remembrance is tactless and inhumane.Images of Trans Rights Protest in Auckland in 2023.

Text: Healthcare is a human right and gender affirming healthcare saves lives. Young transgender people have a right to access the same medications as cisgender young people. Medical decisions should be based on medical expertise and community need, rather than imported misinformation that endangers our most vulnerable young people.
We recognise the very real harm and fear that this decision inflicts upon our communities, on a day where we grieve the loss of trans whanau whose legacies we carry forward.
Trans people have ALWAYS existed.
Governments come and go, but trans people WIII ALWAYS remain.
