Bessant: "Only a satisfactory outcome in negotiations will end the downward spiral." Obviously in US-English "negotiations" have the same meaning as "Economic Blackmail". And "Economic Blackmail" is increasingly the primary doctrine of US foreign policy.

What if Blair never defeated Thatcherism at all? What if he simply made it electable under a Labour banner? Because if that is true, then figures like Nigel Farage are not an interruption to the last thirty years of British politics. They are the product of it.

There's much ado about Blair's little essay. Perhaps it is easiest understood as lobbying for his new paymasters: Fossil Fuel interests, AI billionaires and the Trump circus. But I think Blairism itself is at least partly responsible for the rise of the hard right in the UK. Full article below.

When you hear the absurd claims about how many people turned out for Tommy Ten-Names' rag-tag army today, check this out. This is an arial shot of it. ChatGPT estimates it is: 1–1.5 km long 18–25m wide ≈24,000 m² 2 people/m² = comfortable crowd 3–4 people/m² = tightly packed So maybe 70,000 MAX.
Based on this image of the "Unite The Kingdom" march on Saturday 16th May, an ai estimate of the size of the crowd was:
1–1.5 km long
averaging perhaps 18–25 metres wide
That gives an occupied area of roughly:
A≈1200 m×20 m=24,000 m
2
Dense marches typically run at around:
2 people/m² = comfortable crowd
3–4 people/m² = tightly packed

So:

24,000 m² × 2.5 people/m² ≈ 60,000
24,000 m² × 3 people/m² ≈ 72,000

Surely this is way more offensive, way more likely to incite violence, than a slogan decrying genocide and expressing support for Palestine Action? Will anything happen over it? Will anyone be charged with inciting racial hatred - which is its obvious purpose? Don't hold your breath.

First Farage said the £5m was for "security". Critics could say he only needed security because of his political activity - ergo it should be declared. Now he says ot was "reward for Brexit". Which is surely an admission that it was for his political activity. And a slam dunk for his critics.

So now it’s vote Reform or get an asylum centre. Vindictive politics. Reward one group. Punish another. Repeat. Then select new victims. But who? Trade unionists? Journalists? The unemployed? Anyone judged less able? Your friends? Your family? YOU? Fascism starts with categories, not camps.
A representation of a crowd of people being scanned in a crosshair sight looking for a victim. Some of the figures are a different colour to the rest suggesting they are potential targets. Fascism begins with categories, not camps; the image conveys how fascism needs a constant supply of new victims to sustain its messaging.

A gem from Marina Hyde today... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
A quote from Marina Hyde in The Guardian, 17-04-2026. "When the English pulled the trigger on the Reformation, of course, they were ruled by a sociopathic malignant narcissist, who emptied his pram of toys when Rome didn’t sign up to his obsession of the hour. He was also extremely given to kleptocracy, and couldn’t really see a policy position without reconfiguring it as a material benefit to himself. I dunno: something feels familiar, I just can’t put my finger on it."

Reform economics. Spend £2.3bn a year on tax cuts for 10 years. Then claim they’ll pay for themselves by raising £8bn extra revenue *if* everything goes perfectly. (ifs.org.uk/articles/ini...) A new calculator isn’t all they need… but it would be a start. #UKPolitics #Reform #Economics101
Image of a calculator showing the message "Error!". Reforms tax proposals for Scotland clearly do not add up. They assume £8bn increase in revenue over 10 years and claim this will somehow cover the £23bn cost of the cuts.

Nick Timothy is plain wrong. If “there is one God” is a declaration of dominance, then the Bible is guilty too (like every monotheistic religion). It says the same thing, and adds “I am a jealous God” just for good measure. This isn’t about theology, it’s about who’s allowed to say what out loud.

🧵9/9 Bottom line: This is meant not to sound like panic. But it is distinctly defensive. Keir Starmer has seen how many voters they are losing not just to Reform on the right, but to a populist Green Party on the left, because Labour too has moved so far to the right. But he can't say it out loud.

The idea suggested by Reform, (and some in Labour), that the Greens "weaponised" a "sectarian", "Islamist" block vote to back a party with a gay Jewish leader, is not implausible. It's absolutely bonkers hilarious. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 #UKpolitics #GreenParty #WIN
Silhouette of a ballot box and a voting slip. UK politics was upended on 26-02-26 by a Green Party win in Gorton and Denton by-election, producing ridiculous claims of organised sectarian voting - ie one party chose to engage with the ethnic minority residents of the area.
