Two years later, after four games we again have five points, and the fourth result is again a one-goal defeat to Chelsea - except this time we still have City to come. What is different this time that should give us confidence Renée Slegers can turn it around?

In 2024, after four games we had five points, with the fourth result being a one-goal defeat to Chelsea. The team looked lost and frustrated, and Jonas Eidevall resigned shortly afterwards.

Ruins of the Grevenburg, Traben-Trarbach, Germany. Painted yesterday, from a photo taken last year. 10 minutes pencil, 10 minutes pen, and 20-30 minutes painting. Ran out of time to detail the town in the distance.
A watercolor painting depicts an ancient stone structure with arches overlooking a river, with a German flag hanging from the building and tents pitched along the riverbank.

Drawing practice. Trying to focus on process rather than product, although I’m actually quite pleased with this one.

For 3 midfield positions, we have 3.5 players available that Renée trusts - Kim, Mariona, Frida, & Lessi (who’s also our best 9). This lack of depth feels frustratingly foreseeable. At whose door does the blame lie: Renée? The recruitment team? Clare Wheatley?

Renee clearly doesn’t trust Codina, and we’re expecting her to move on in the summer. For all her faults, she is a Spain international and former serial-winner with Barcelona. Can we expect to sign someone better to be 5th choice CB, or are will we be pushing Katie/Lotte down the pecking order?

Finished reading: Moonflower Murders: A Novel (Magpie Murders Book 2) by Anthony Horowitz 📚 Enjoyed this as much as the first in the series. Whether it’s these novels within novels, or the Hawthorn autofiction, I think he’s a clever writer.

In looking for a different stoic quote, I came across this from Epictetus, and now I can’t stop thinking about it: "“It is not he who reviles or strikes you who insults you, but your opinion that these things are insulting.”"

I’m always surprised that iOS doesn’t have built-in image resizing. So I made a shortcut.
The steps of a shortcut which receives an image, asks for a width and resizes, converts to jpeg at 85% quality, then either copies to the clipboard, saves to photos, or saves to files.

All compost bags in B&Q are peat free this year 👏🏼 now we just need Government to finish the almost complete peat based compost ban to protect our peat lands. The whole industry and customers are calling for it!
