PDSv2 architecture involves splitting up the current 3-tier PDS architecture (load balancer -> app servers -> Postgres) into a number of standalone servers that we've called "PDS in a box" PDSv2 servers will be beefy bare metal machines running haproxy + multiple instances Node w/100k+ SQLite DBs.

The Amazon Prime Video team was able to reduce cost by moving from Serverless backed by Lambda to monoliths running on VMs. "Moving our service to a monolith reduced our infrastructure cost by over 90%. It also increased our scaling capabilities."

Ugh, why do I do this? Started implementing a user friendly Go client API for Bluesky. For now it has the bare minimum boilerplate in place: user authentication with under-the-hood JWT refreshes and capability to do custom atproto calls for unimplemented stuff (i.e. everything 😅). #golang #bluesky
