If you like Lovecraft-esque worlds there’s a book called ‘the fisherman’ by John Langan that id recommend. Really hits the spot for that kind of cosmic horror

Tonight I’m watching ‘The Elephant Man’. My first David Lynch film I’m pretty sure. What should I watch next?

It also has no split screen co-op which I kinda assumed would be a given for a game of this type

I'm hoping to start a new project in August, any non-programmers looking to collab on something? Your ideas or mine, I'm happy either way 😄 I have ~10 years SWE experience and have been making little games for most of that time. DM me! #gamedev #art #pixelart #collab #lfg #indiedev #videogames

You’ll pay more for *better* hardware that you can upgrade modularly, and if you buy DRM free games through places like GOG you can stick them onto USB drives to transport and copy as you wish

So so happy with the impact animation I drew for the players laser cannon, I never thought I'd get to a point where I was actually proud of art I'd created but this whole project is shaping up to be something really fun. First time for everything I guess :D #playdate #pixelart #indiegames #gamedev

#gamedev and #art folks, do you use TikTok to show off the stuff you make? Do you get engagement? Is it worth the effort you put in?

Instead I applied the force regardless of whether a collision occurred 🤦 So what you actually get is a little push each frame towards that centre line. Its easy to fix, but I also kinda like the idea of having an autopilot power-up, so maybe you'll see a less terrible version somewhere down the line
000
Dan @atomic-arc.com · 03/06/2026
Once I've found a collision, I just need to push the player toward that centre line and voila; half-decent, non-AABB collision with no impact on performance. If you code it correctly. I did not code it correctly.

Dan @atomic-arc.com · 03/06/2026
To get around this, I defined a centre line and acceptable deviation per section (red lines in the video) and then all I had to do was calculate how far from this line the player is. If they're outside the acceptable deviation, they've hit a wall.

Dan @atomic-arc.com · 03/06/2026
A bit of background: Playdate has very basic collision detection which can't handle much other than AABB collisions. This means that there isn't a standard way of handling collision for the slopes which is a problem given that it won't be much of a game if you can fly straight through the obstacles.

I've been working hard adding a space station interior zone to Cranky Aliens, here are some WIP screenshots. If you think they're cool, consider liking and sharing? It helps little devs out so much. Thanks! #playdate #indiedev #pixelart

I really like the idea of shaping the landscape to allow rain to naturally flow and pool, I don't know if i've seen that used elsewhere. Even if the pooled water is non-functional (to keep things cosier and less management-y) I think that would be a super satisfying bit of gameplay

For the last place I rented, I sent them a redacted pdf for my main account. It still showed all the transaction amounts but without the detail. Estate agent said not good enough. Then I sent them a pdf for an account I never used that was completely blank... which the agent accepted?! Insane system

A sidescrolling game for the Playdate console. A tank is driving left to right across the screen in front of a scrolling city background. On the right side of the screen is a large alien mothership which is targeting the player. Other vehicles and platforms can be seen on screen

Something that jumped out at me was the glitch effect on text transitions - it feels a bit thematically confused. I'd probably go for a fade in/out. The trailer doesn't really scream 'horror' to me either, thats more subjective of course. High CTR I can believe, cool premise. Hope it succeeds.
