Morning :) I did not get concurd. I did, however, get crud from somewhere and have spent the last few days with syrup for brains. Today is much better, thankfully, so I might manage to clear up my day job to do list at least!

Hold On Tight
I've been and come back from a little trip over to Ireland to attend Octocon (and do a very, VERY whistle-stop tour of Dublin ) which was absolutely brilliant and I got to meet some very, very lovely people (and spend a lot of time in the corner tonguetied because, seriously, not just lovely people but awesome ones) but the trip was far too short.

It's a good start, at least! (And that reminds me: I need to go put my lunch on...)

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I've been for a walk, our balls are cold today. They'd be dry and warm if they were in L.A. #SaturdayMorning dreaming on an #Orkney autumn day. 🍂

Morning :) I rather think alcohol may have been involved with this bunch, who were marauding around the streets of Dublin like it was the 800s!

Pretty certain I was allowed my teddy bear when I had my tonsils removed 40+ years ago and I *know* I had my little lovey, too (I seem to recall that might have actually gone down to theatre with me...which probably wasn't supposed to happen!)

I don’t blame you - that’s our table soup looked gorgeous! (Not to say the salad wasn’t, of course…)

Mmmmmm - soup… (I’m not saying I’m suggestible, but I now know what I’m having for dinner!)

*grins* Baby steps. My hot water bottle (at least my office one) is actually an electric one and I made sure I had dug it out and prepared it before I went away last week!

I...may have used a hot water bottle for that this morning!

Morning :) After 12hrs of travel and not nearly enough sleep, this is where I am mentally…even if, physically, I have made it into the office! (Photo was taken somewhere near Colwyn Bay, from the train)

I got lucky! No desparate sprints while carrying what felt like 50lb of luggage (seriously, none of what I packed was that heavy individually but put it all together and it resembled a substance denser than lead…). There was a distinct lack of coffee options, but I got home on time…and now 😴😴😴

Athersgeo @athersgeo.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Thank you! I’ve made it to the ferry port, which was the bit I was worried about. The rest should be relatively easy - although there will be one instance of a sprint across a station, which I’m choosing to view as my cardio for the day!

Morning :) Today is a travel day, which I’m torn about. On the one hand, it’s been a lovely time spent with fabulous people. On the other? The weather today is grim, so I’d be getting soggy if I wasn’t travelling…

This will be me tomorrow - today I have to be with it to handle travel. Which SHOULD be straight forward…but I’m not counting on that!

The morning after a really good weekend is always a bit of a let down. All the more so when you have to then spend the morning travelling! Fortunately, I can do something a bit more fun this afternoon, once I’ve reached Dublin…

Remember: Darwin's note of "I am very poorly today & very stupid & hate everybody & everything" was written on Oct 1 (1861). Thus we are free to celebrate Very Poorly And Very Stupid Hatred Day today.

Writer Wednesday: The Forest Brotherhood
Still (just about!) in September, this month's Writer Wednesday is another foray into non-fiction, with a book about Baltic resistance against the Nazis and Soviets, by Dan Kaszeta. What is it? As the book's subtitle says, it describes what was going on in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, from the end of WWI, when all three states became independent countries after a period of rule by Tsarist Russia, to the middle of the 1950s, when all three were incorporated into the USSR and armed resistance functionally ended.

They really do! Alpacas are also fairly high on the judge-y scale. And camels. Camels are divas.

Morning :) Last year, in an effort to have a day off actually be a day off (spoiler alert: I still ended up in a conference call 🙄), I went for a little adventure down to Devon to revisit childhood haunts…and this was the start: a trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway!

It's a short week this week, by virtue of my trip, so I have a lot to try and pack in. I did end up getting a good amount sorted on draft 6 and I got a few of my ducks sorted out elsewhere too, but there's still more to be tackled. So today, once the day job stuff is handled, I need to...

Morning :) Moo-ving into the week with a view of my neighbours! On the one hand, I do love living this close to open countryside. On the other hand, when the wind is just wrong, it can be a bit, uh, niffy!

At this point, I'm not sure if I'm wrangling ducks or squirrels with ADHD... (Or to put it another way, I'm somehow plotting three things at once while writing a synopsis for a fourth - it's simultaniously the most productive I've been all weekend and the least!)

UPDATE 2 Household chores largely done. Trip prep mostly done. Draft 6...there's been some progress, but nothing too substantial (hopefully that will change later). This morning is going to be for some duck herding...

Thank you! The initial premise was inspired by a small boy stomping around the shops doing 'back to school' shopping with a very bad grace (unfortunately for his responsible adult there wasn't a handy naturalist to talk him round!)

Friday Fiction: Back to School
Just squeezing into September, this month's Friday Fiction once more takes a trip to the park, where Lucas isn't at all keen on returning for another year of school, but discovering that there's more to being a naturalist than just liking ducks might sweeten the deal! Read Back to School Happy reading! 🙂
