Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026The US doesn't need "democracy" to access that oil. It needs compliance. Worst outcome for Venezuelan's would be if Rodriguez heads a (now compliant) version of the previous regime. That means the US gets oil. The regime stays. Win win for them. A tragedy for Venezuelan's. 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026Would anyone like to investigate the stock market trades of Members of Congress involving Cheveron, ExxonMobile, ConocoPhillips in the weeks leading up to this? Just asking. 1408
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026For some, losing some sovereignty (oil no longer within the country's control) was a reasonable price for regime change. They're now faced with the prospect of losing sovereignty, while the regime lives on, because this was never about democracy. Such a tragedy for the Venezuelan people. 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026And China investment typically sits outside ICSID arbitration (which is heavily aligned towards the US/ EU anyway). "Loans for oil" was still a smart bet by China which what it needed at the time, despite the inherent risk, which is now being realized.. 100
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026This is a tragedy for the Venezuelan people. If Rodríguez cooperates on oil, the US gets what it wants without regime change and the regime lives on. So Venezuelans get neither sovereignty (they don't even get to control their own natural resources) nor democracy. So, so sad. 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026If Russia issued a threat so credible it prompted the Prime Minister of Denmark to publicly respond, then NATO and Denmark would already be moving into Article 4 consultations, heightened readiness, and visible defensive signalling. Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026In other words, the UK/ EU don't give a shit about legality. There's no sober legal assessment behind closed doors. It's a feeding frenzy. They're all vying for a spot to suck on daddy Trumps teets and swallow that sweet oil money. 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026Always follow the money. British companies BP and Shell have approved cross-border natural gas projects with Venezuela (fact check it). They stand to gain significantly if/ when the country's oil sector is re-privatized. UK/ EU are like pigs in a trough, all vying for the biggest slice of the pie 110
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026If I were Venezuelan my concern would be that VP Rodriguez complies with the US. If that happens and the US gets what it wants (access to the oil reserves) there's no need for regime change. That's a win-win for the US and Rodriguez. A lose-lose for Venezuelans. 020
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 05/01/2026Should have reframed the question to side-step his weasily deflections: Does the UK government currently have plans to annex Greenland? No. Why not? What are some of the disbenefits of doing so? 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 04/01/2026Sometimes you need to look past the phrasing though, to the substance of what's being said. People are not AIs. They don't always deliver perfectly curated, perfectly pitched, impeccably framed problem statements. But that doesn't mean their underlying point isn't perfectly valid or true. 170
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 04/01/2026The point some people are making is that lobbying, donor ecosystems, primary pressure and access politics all shape political incentives, producing a tightly constrained policy space regardless of party. That's compressed into "Harris is a corporate shill, like Trump" out of anger and frustration. 190
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Context, explaining how and why this claim is so wrong. bsky.app/profile/atan... 210
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026In short, the US does not, and never did "own" Venezuelan oil, and has no legal claim to it. 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Chevron stayed, under the new terms. ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips did not agree, and their interests were expropriated. Venezuela publicly indicated its intention to compensate affected companies, but there were disputes over valuation leading to international arbitration. 110
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Context: Venezuela's oil is nationalized. US companies like Exxon were under contract to build and operate infrastructure. In 2000s new commercial terms were set that gave the state a higher share of control and revenue. Foreign companies were given the choice to accept the new framework or exit. 100
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Summary: - No US entity owns Venezuelan oil - When foreign companies build infrastructure, the host nation retains sovereign authority - Nationalization is not theft - Companies must be compensated for seized assets, but they never own the resources themselves 100
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Correction: Chevron stayed, as it agreed to the new commercial terms. ExxonMobile and ConocoPhillips were told if they can't agree terms, their projects would revert back to the state. They failed to agree terms. And the state expropriated the operations and assets of all their projects. 021
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026So when Trump talks about "our oil", he's not referring to any treaty or right to the oil. He's literally talking about the fact Venezuela told US companies to fuck off. So make no mistake, this is a corporate sponsored action to reverse the nationalization of a sovereign states natural resources 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026I'm not sure people fully understand this. The oil industry in Venezuela was nationalized, but some US companies were under contract to help produce the oil. Venezuela renegotiated terms massively in favor of the state, and anyone who didn't agree were kicked out: Chevron, Exxon included. 211
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026They must have people on the inside. Maduro was not exactly popular. My guess is the opposition have entered into a "deal with the devil" situation. No more Maduro in exchange for reinstating the oil rights stripped from Exxon, Chevron etc 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026tbf "renegotiated terms" is an understatement. The state seized assets of private companies like: Exxon, Chevron etc. But sovereign states can do that (just like the US can force a Chinese company to sell TikTok). Either way "our oil" is bullshit. The oil never belonged to the US. 030
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Venezuela's oil industry is nationalized. US companies were under contract to produce, operate, and profit from the oil. Venezuela effectively told them to fuck off (renegotiated terms massively in favor of the state). To Trump that means "they stole our oil" Fact check it. I kid you not. 153
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 03/01/2026So is Kim Jong Un, so is Vladimir Putin. Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026If the argument here is that conspiracies can exist, I agree, but that makes precision even more important. Making claims about specific people, specific actions, and specific coercive mechanisms is reasonable. Assigning responsibility for specific actions to an entire social group is not. 110
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Exactly, which is why not using "control" language is better. Influence is not only more accurate but it also lets you critique lobbying and foreign policy incentives without collapsing Israel into Jews, or invoking antisemitic tropes. 120
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026These are not the same thing. Keeping them separate is how you avoid antisemitic framing, while still having an honest conversation about political influence. 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026The distinction is: – Claims that Israel "controls" US leaders = antisemitic trope. – Claims that pro-Israel lobbying shapes incentives in US politics and influences foreign policy decisions = perfectly legitimate structural critique of money and power. 250
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Control implies loss of agency and echoes longstanding antisemitic tropes. Influence preserves choice, while still describing real relationships. Biden, Obama didn't act because Netanyahu told them to, but their policy space was constrained by domestic political incentives and lobbying realities. 130
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Mostly agree with this, but I think it skips an important middle layer. Sure, support ≠ control, but that doesn't negate influence. Lobbying, donor ecosystems, primary pressure, access politics etc. can all shape incentives without anyone being controlled. 320
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Agree. Third axis is institutional/ PAC-aligned funding vs grassroots/ small donor funding. Only partially maps to class struggle, but could definitely pick up working class voters already burned by MAGA policies. Also drives that wedge on the right between MAGA/ America First even deeper! 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 01/01/2026People with different motives can land on the same critique without invalidating it. Distrust of elites, foreign policy lobbying, concentrated power is foundational to the populist right But separating Israeli government from Jewish people helps keep the concern from collapsing into antisemitism. 000
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Just think how fucked up genocidal Zionists must be to seriously claim that this man is anti-Semitic just because he doesn't subscribe to their Zionist bullshit 👇🏻 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 31/12/2025A fan of history? Take your Zionist terrorism and pro-Israeli propaganda bullshit, and fuck off. 010
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 31/12/2025The harm pro-Israeli lobbying specifically is causing domestic politics should be a legitimate concern for left and right. Some people have ulterior motives for raising that concern. Both can be true at the same time. The latter doesn't negate the former. 150
Atangibletruth @atangibletruth.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Exactly. Jewish =/= Zionist.
