NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spotted the crater on the moon’s near side in May 2024 soon after it was formed by an incoming fragment of an asteroid or comet. The moon strike escaped real-time detection by telescopes on Earth and in space.

I should have clarified. There's an 800 square foot modern "hogan-style" house on the property as well as a 300 square foot bunk house. So total, sleeps 6-8 depending on how cozy you want to be. Here's the view to the east, standing just to the side of the hogan, as the Sun sets behind me.

A seemingly normal series of images showing the typical progression of a total solar eclipse arranged in a circle, but instead of totality in the middle, it's a 75% partially eclipsed Sun with the silhouette of an airplane just "riding the edge" of the dark moon as it eclipses the Sun!

A member of the Star River Discord server (astropotamus.com/discord), Jean d'Hooghvorst, shared this image of the 2026 Solar #Eclipse using a #Seestar! I think this is an amazing image, and wanted to show you all here! Full video is at tinyurl.com/y84va2jw Awesome #astrophotography! ☀️🔭🦛
 Jean d'Hooghvorst:

This is the result of a couple of timelapses during partiality and a video during totality. The videos and images have been taken with a seestar s50. The end result has been stitched with DaVinci Resolve (first time using it). You will see at the end of the first partiality some parts of the sun flicker. This is because the seestar was struggling with the tracking and I had to register all the frames in post-processing to keep the sun centered. Some of these frames have a small part of the sun out of frame on the final edit. At the end of the second partiality I removed the solar filter because the sun was extremely low and atmospheric extinction was killing my images with the filter. The sunset with the eclipsed sun was something I will never forget. Hope you like it!

👍 Also, I'm fuzzy sometimes on what the icons mean in the top left once I've chosen them. Can you add a "hover" option or something to show what they are? And lastly, the arrow showing the end-of-level chest sometimes gets lost in the melee. Maybe something like this instead?

A man is suspended on a long ladder placed mostly horizontally over a clock made of flowers and plants that's easily twice his size in diameter. The word "Bicentennial" can be seen made of green flowers along the top of the clock, and the text "-2009" similarly done at the bottom. Out of frame, it actually says 1809-2009. The man is trimming the flowers of the clock, which is set into the side of a shallow angled hillside. Roman numerals also made of flowers complete the clock face.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket stage is expected to slam into the Moon at ~2:35am Eastern on Wednesday, August 5. It should hit near the lunar limb, potentially producing a brief flash and a plume of dust and debris. I'll be trying to capture it with the Astropotamus Rex 14" ACF and an ASI432 camera. 🌗🚀🔭🦛

A discarded SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket upper stage is projected to unintentionally crash into the moon on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 5,400 mph (8,700 km/h). You won't see the rocket stage, but a big scope might let you see the dust plume! 🌓🔭🦛
A discarded SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket upper stage is projected to unintentionally crash into the moon on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 5,400 mph (8,700 km/h). The 4,000 kg object has been drifting in a chaotic orbit since its launch in January 2025.Impact Details & LocationDate & Time: August 5, 2026, in the early morning hours (around 2:34 a.m. ET).Location: Near the Einstein Crater on the moon’s sunlit western limb.Expected Result: A fresh impact crater roughly 89 feet (27 meters) wide and 16 feet (5 meters) deep.Debris Plume: The crash is expected to excavate over a million kilograms of lunar dust and regolith.Visibility & ScienceFlash: The direct impact flash will likely be too brief and faint to spot against the sunlit lunar surface.Dust Cloud: Advanced amateur and professional astronomers in parts of North and South America may see the resulting debris plume silhouetted against space.

The Iris Nebula. About six hours total of imaging time using Luminance, Red, Green and Blue filters to capture individual wavelengths of light, and then combined using Seti Astro Suite Pro. 🌌🔭🦛
The Iris Nebula (also known as NGC 7023 or Caldwell 4) is a bright reflection nebula located about 1,300 light years from Earth in the constellation of Cepheus. The nebula is illuminated by a magnitude +7.4 star designated HD 200775. It is six light-years across. The nebula was discovered in 1794 by Sir William Herschel, a astronomer, where it was then added to the New General Catalogue (NGC).
