I ended up watching it myself after posting it today. It’s probably from seeing it as a child, but I still cringed in horror at parts. Like the jock at the start that gets enveloped at the start. The way he screams as if through a film (literally happening in the movie) still gives goosebumps

If you get to see it for the first time, what a treat! I consistently think it’s woefully underrated as an 80’s horror classic. It’s on a lot of hidden gems lists despite having plenty of time to be known better now

31 days of spooky things I like day 6: The Blob (1988) is probably the single best remake of a horror film in existence. It's better than the original in every way, and also scared the bejesus out of me as a child. It's still deeply uncomfortable even up to this day, the special effects are amazing

Agreed. I think a Hellraiser graphic novel could work—from human perspectives. Actually, small Cenobite perspective scenes COULD work. And they did in the early parts when what Pinhead was doing was mysterious, and loaded with absolutely quotable chunks. But yes. Then it went waaaay too far.

Ok nevermind. I don’t recommend reading Hellraiser 2017. I was barely willing to skip over Cenobites being flattened into mere demons and Kirsty being a demon hunter, fine. But then Cenobites started talking like this and I’m all the way out. Nope

Reading the 2017 Hellraiser omnibus and boy do I have a love/hate relationship with it. Clive Barker was directly related to the project. So why are we back to Cenobites being demons of Hell instead of amoral explorers of the outer shores of sensation? I suspect it’s because the comics are a 🧵

Looking for a fun Bracket 2 commander. Currently my only commander deck is Bant Galadriel, so a Rakdos commander would capture the color pie; or any combination with Rakdos + another color would be fine, too. Cost is no issue. Our little pod that we started is just fully proxying.

31 days of spooky things I like day 5: This 2015 film is usually found in free spots like Tubi. It’s actually on my top list of 2010s horror films that I liked unironically. It’s unexpectedly brutal without devolving into gore porn and doesn’t entirely rely on characters being stupid to move plot.

I don’t think this is evidence against that, at least. I think humans are inherently credulous, and bad actors have perfected techniques to weaponize ignorance and foster hatred that should otherwise have been squashed during upbringing.
